6 Teams Scrimmage at FTS

Brandon Hall
Executive Director, PBR NC

Baseball season is here and that means scouts from PBR are on the road searching and working to find games to watch.  On Saturday February 15th, Fayetteville Terry Sanford HS hosted four other schools for modified scrimmages.

The day begin with cool temperatures but warmed up as the games progressed.  Each team in attendance played 2 games with a drop dead time limit.  Coaches, some of whom have not been able to make their final roster cuts yet due to weather, were able to get very early look at a lot of players in different positions, handling different aspects of the game.

Below we take a look at players from each team in attendance with notes, stats, and some video.  Before we jump to the scout blog, we would like to give a shout out to the players and staffing at Terry Sanford HS.  The players played the first game of the day at 9am and then the last game of the day at 6:10pm.  Between games the players and staff were getting the field ready for other teams.   It was obvious as well, with the amount of rain the region has experienced recently, that the “ground’s crew” (read baseball staff) has done a ton of work on the field to have it ready for the scrimmages and the spring.  Every team in attendance mentioned their gratitude to the Terry Sanford program and it was well deserved.

Corinth Holders HS

A team that will be favored by many heading into the spring, and will be ranked inside the PBR Power 25 as it is revealed around the 1st of March, showed a lot of depth in their lineup and on the bump in their two scrimmages.  2020 RHP/INF Landon Ginn finished the 2019 season banged up and unable to throw in the State Championship series, but he is back healthy and primed for a big 2020.

Landon Ginn, RHP/INF, 2020
East Carolina commit.  Switch hitter made loud contact in each of his at-bats, from the right and left side.  The biggest bolt came from the left side, right at the time limit of their 1st scrimmage, sending a line shot over the right-center field fence.  Ginn is listed at 6’3”, 225 pounds with a muscular definition and powerful legs.  He works from an athletic base from each side with a simple, quiet load.  The bat has quickness and strength through the zone.

On the bump, Ginn worked from the stretch only with simple leg lift and stable head.  On-line, landing in-line and slightly closed with the foot-strike.  Strong, clean arm action gets to a high-3/4 slot with electric hand speed.  Fastball sat 89-91 early with the fastball spin rate above 2500 rpm.  The slider is an out pitch, tunneling with the fastball at 75-78 and a spin rate of 2100-2200 rpm.
