3A Round 3: Sun Valley at St. Stephens

The Sun Valley Spartans visited the St. Stephens Indians on Saturday evening with a birth to the 3A West Regional Finals on the line. A good crowd was on hand with many students and fans making the trip up from Sun Valley.

Sun Valley wasted no time carrying their momentum from an 11 inning win over East Rowan into this one with bats getting hot in the first inning. The first 6 hitters in the Sun Valley lineup scored before an out was recorded. In total the Spartans sent 11 hitters to the plate in the 1st and took an early 6-0 lead. 

The Spartans added another run in the 2nd on a Greg Bello home run to center. Sun Valley starter Derek Vartanian used that momentum and retired the first 6 batters he faced before allowing a base runner. St. Stephens competed but couldn't get enough baserunners to mount a rally. Sun Valley would add 3 more runs in the 3rd and cruise to a 10-0 victory in 5 innings. 

Sun Valley will visit Cox Mill on Tuesday night with the winner earning the right to play for the 3A State Championship.
