MADISON, MS - The South MS Rising Stars ID was held on Saturday, April 6th at The Southern Performance Institute in Madison, MS. This event was an open event that consisted of some prospects from the 2028-2029 classes across all parts of Mississippi. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw bullpens and were able to get numbers and metrics via TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Lyric Atkinson, BRANDON HIGH SCHOOL (MS), 2028
Positional Profile: 2B/3B
Body: 5-7, 130-pounds. Projectable frame
Hit: RHH. Taller set up with hands just above back shoulder. Controlled load with a little longer stride. Level bat path with middle to pull side approach.
Power: 82 max exit velocity, averaged 69.9 mph. 213' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-63 mph. Quick arm action
Defense: Good footwork on infield. Developing range. Accurate arm though still gaining strength.
ATH: 8.46 runner in the 60. 1.89 and 4.56 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Taggart Brooks, Winona Christian (MS), 2028
Positional Profile: 1B
Body: 6-2, 240-pounds. Large, durable frame
Hit: RHH. Tall Stance with slight preset load. Hands are tight and just above back shoulder. Small load, bigger stride. Fairly level bat path. Spins off front heal occasionally. Middle to pull side approach.
Power: 87 max exit velocity, averaged 80.6 mph. 277' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-72 mph. Long arm action
Defense: Developing footwork around the bag. As he gains control of large frame footwork will get smoother. Accurate, still developing arm.
ATH: 8.61 runner in the 60. 1.98 and 4.70 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Kee Curro, CANTON ACADEMY (MS), 2029
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 5-10, 125-pounds. Lean, wiry frame
Hit: RHH. Conventional stance, though slightly open with tighter hand set just above back shoulder. Very small load. Works off back leg into contact. Level bat path with middle to opposite field approach currently.
Power: 72 max exit velocity, averaged 69.6 mph. 90' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-59 mph. Long arm action
Defense: Developing footwork and maturing frame. Accuracy on throws with developing arm strength.
ATH: 8.87 runner in the 60. 1.95 and 4.77 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Wells Jeffcoat, Jackson Academy (MS), 2028
Positional Profile: C/3B
Body: 5-9, 140-pounds. Projectable frame
Hit: RHH. Wide lower half with tight hands just above back shoulder. Smooth, controlled load and stride with some aggression into contact. Attacks baseball out front with level swing and can drive to all fields.
Power: 80 max exit velocity, averaged 74.6 mph. 243' max distance.
Arm: RH. C-64 mph. Quick arm action.
Defense: 2.22-2.44 pop times. Good fundamental set up behind the plate. Solid direction on throws to 2B. Developing arm and quickness. Good body positioning on blocks and bunts.

Dawson Lewis, Northwest Rankin Middle (MS), 2029
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-7, 140-pounds. Lean, athletic build
Hit: RHH. Tall, relaxed stance with convention hand set. Easy load and stride with some aggression into contact. Line drive, middle to pull side approach. Plenty of upside!
Power: 80 max exit velocity, averaged 74.2 mph. 255' max distance.

Defense: Developing footwork with good range. Smooth and quick transfers with upside at position.

Sam Milner, JACKSON PREPARATORY SCHOOL (MS), 2028
Positional Profile: C/SS
Body: 5-8, 150-pounds. Lean, projectable frame
Hit: LHH. Tall, rythmic stance with hands higher and nearly center of body to start. Easy load and stride. Creates leverage with hands in load. Some aggression into contact. Middle to pull side approach.
Power: 85 max exit velocity, averaged 77.8 mph. 252' max distance.
Arm: RH. C-67 mph. INF-67 mph. Quick arm action.

Chase Parker, VANCLEAVE HIGH SCHOOL (MS), 2028

Body: 5-7, 120-pounds. Wiry build
Hit: LHH. Wide lower half with conventional hand set. Small load and stride with level bat path and gap to gap approach.
Power: 77 max exit velocity, averaged 70.5 mph. 252' max distance.
Arm: LH. INF-72 mph. OF-76 mph. Short arm action.
Defense: Good footwork on defense with sure glove. Smooth transfers with good arm and accuracy on throws.

Arm: RH. C-64 mph. INF-67 mph. Short, quick arm action.
Defense: 2.22-2.50 pop times. Catcher: Good set up in crouch. Quickness in feet on throws to 2B. Solid direction and transfers. Good fundamental body positioning on blocks and bunt coverages. INF: Developing footwork on infield, though should get better with body maturity. Good on transfers with strengthening arm.

Axton Westmoreland, MAGNOLIA HEIGHTS SCHOOL (MS), 2028

Body: 6-0, 155-pounds. Tall, lean frame
Hit: LHH. Slightly wider than normal stance with conventional hands. Very smooth load and stride. Line drive, middle to pull side approach. Occasional loft. Upside at the plate.
Power: 90 max exit velocity, averaged 85.0 mph. 323' max distance.
Arm: LH. INF-78 mph. OF-81 mph. Long arm action.
Defense: OF: Good feet in the outfield. Approaches ground balls well. Fields baseball out front to glove side. Strong, accurate arm. INF: Athletic feet and movements around the bag. Fluid transfers with accurate throws to other bases.
