Prep Baseball All-American Game Recap

Matt Miller
State Director

Back home from Florida after a spectacular Prep Baseball All-American Game held at Loan Depot Park, home of the Miami Marlins. The event featured many of the nations top players in the 2025 and 2026 classes going head to head versus each other in a 9 inning contest. Mississippi was well represented at the star studded event with flame throwing right hander Landon Harmon of East Union HS on hand and a couple of twins that can swing the stick in Jacob and Jo Jo Parker from Purvis HS. All three players are Mississippi State commits and potential 2025 Major League Draft picks next July.

The weekend started off on Thursday as players arrived and checked into the Intercontinental Miami Hotel which had a very cool Mizuno Players Lounge set up, full of interactive opportunities for the players to get acquainted. Mizuno also did not hold back when supplying the players with gear which included the best uniforms I’ve seen, along with custom gloves, shoes, batting practice attire, batting gloves, backpacks, and plenty more! Players later went on a tour of the ballpark with dinner at the stadium allowing them to get to know their respective coaches. Former MLB All Star and 15 year veteran Matt Holliday was the manager for 2025 team, with 7 year Major Leaguer Brandon Guyer, now a top mental skills coach, leading the 2026 group.

Friday allowed the players to get familiar with the playing field as they went through testing, got in some infield and outfield reps, took on-field batting practice, while finishing up with a homerun derby won by 2026 team member and Auburn recruit Coleman Borthwick of Florida. Later that evening players and their families, along with Prep Baseball staff and a wide variety of sponsors gathered for a banquet with several key speakers including University of Tennessee head baseball coach Tony Vitello.

The main event got underway on Saturday around 1pm with Jo Jo Parker picking up the first hit of the game as he squared up a fastball on the outer half of the plate and sent a liner into the left centerfield gap for a stand up double. Jo Jo later added a sacrifice fly in the 7th and ended the day 1-2 with an rbi. His brother Jacob didn’t pick up any in game hits though did show off his impressive power with some towering shots in batting practice with exit velocities reaching up to 105 mph. Landon Harmon entered the game in the top of the 8th inning with the 2025’s up 5-0 and put up a zero of his own while picking up a couple of strikeouts in the frame. Harmons fastball was up to a blistering 96 mph and while displaying some high quality spin with tight sweeping action. The game ended with the 2025’s picking up the win for the second straight year with a 7-0 decision. University of Texas recruit Kayson Cunningham received the game's MVP honors going 2 for 3 with a no-doubt home run and 2 runs batted in.

An overall outstanding job by our national staff putting on this high profile event. From the display of talent on hand, the partnerships with Mizuno and other top vendors, the first class facilities at Marlins Park, the gorgeous Intercontinental Hotel - Miami, to the overall flow of the weekend, there’s a reason Prep Baseball is taking over the industry.
