Oxford Summer ID: Quick Hits

OXFORD, MS - The Oxford Summer ID was held on Wednesday, July 10th at The Farm in Oxford, MS. This event was an open event that consisted of prospects from the 2025-2027 classes across northern parts of Mississippi. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in a bullpen setting and were able to get numbers and metrics via TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look at some of the standouts from the Oxford Summer ID. Below, you can find scout notes and video on some of the standouts from the event.

Crews Albritton OF / LHP / Tri-County Academy, MS / 2027

Stood out on Wednesday and he still has plenty of time ahead of him before things get serious with recruiters. The physical 6-2, 200 pound outfielder is a former Junior Future Games participant and is making his case for next year’s Future Games. Albritton’s ability at the plate is probably the most eye catching at the moment but he got solid speed (6.82), and a plus arm from the outfield as well (87 mph). From the left side of the plate he uses a middle to pull side approach with exit velocities into the upper 90’s (T98). The 2027 class in Mississippi is deep and very strong and Albritton is sitting near the top!

Tanner Brannigan 1B / RHP / TUPELO HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2027

Has the look and frame pitching coaches dream on. The 6-2, 185 pounder had a very polished delivery on Wednesday while showing advanced feel of 3 pitches. His running fastball was up to 82 mph and will continue to rise while his secondary offerings were all in the strike zone which is sometimes tough for young pitchers. We believe Brannigan will soon be a name recruiters are very familiar with.

Caden Cole SS / RHP / Warren Central, MS / 2027

Was at our Top Prospect event last fall at Mississippi State and we were excited about where his game was heading. Not quite a year later and his progression is coming along just fine. As Cole’s 6-2, 160 pound frame begins to strengthen we will get even more of an idea of how big of a prospect he will become. Fluid movement patterns and looseness are evident and the next calendar year will be huge. 

Garrett Latham OF / LHP / Lewisburg, MS / 2026

Had a solid showing on Wednesday at Oxford. The uncommitted outfielder/left handed pitcher displayed his emerging next level ability in multiple areas. He started the day with an event best 6.63 60 and then moved to the outfield and was up to 86 mph with accuracy on throws. At the plate, Latham used the middle of the field well, peppering line drives with exit velocities up to 95 mph. He finished his day on the mound showing fastball command while sitting in the 82-84 mph range and really killing the spin on a quality change up. Latham also throws both a curveball and slider for a solid 4 pitch mix. 

John Griffin Lane RHP / OF / Magnolia Heights, MS / 2025

May have been the diamond in the rough for this event as the 6-4, 180 pounder jumped on the mound and instantly grabbed everyone’s attention. With a frame that recruiters can dream on, Lane worked his fastball up to 87 mph with late life and sizzle. His secondary stuff had good shape with developing feel. This is a must see for recruiters looking to add a 2025 arm with lots of upside.

Cole Stanfill LHP / 1B / Hernando, MS / 2026

Has some work ahead of him with his frame (6-3, 160-pounds), but that’s exciting. The lefty from Hernando doesn’t have overpowering stuff at the moment but with body maturity and a few mechanical tweaks he could develop into a well sought after arm in the 2026 class. Stanfill was up to 79 mph with the fastball though his tumbling curveball and solid change up stood out. Another player that could make huge strides over the next calendar year.

Preston Downs C / 1B / Grenada, MS / 2025

Has some bat speed (82.1) and it stood out on Wednesday as the sturdy 5-10, 212 pound catcher hammered baseballs into the gaps. The uncommitted rising senior worked the middle of the field well with a line drive approach and occasional launch. He also stood out behind the plate with pop times as low as 1.94 with velocities up to 75 mph from behind the dish. He’s still available though he does already have a few options.

Josh Scruggs RHP / 1B / Oxford, MS / 2026

Was at this event a year ago as we saw him for the first time. It was evident he had a big body that would continue to develop on the mound and it has. Scruggs has gained consistent velocity which is now 83-85 mph and plenty more on the way from the 6-5, 220 pounder. He also shows good feel for a curveball (2341 spin) while killing the spin on a mimicking change up (1563). He should be a big part of the Chargers plans come next spring.
