Mississippi Summer ID: Quick Hits

Matt Miller
State Director

RAYMOND, MS - The Mississippi Summer ID was held on Saturday, August 17th at Hinds CC in Raymond, MS. This event was an open event that consisted of prospects from the 2025-2028 classes across northern parts of Mississippi. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in a bullpen setting and were able to get numbers and metrics via TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look at some of the standouts from the Oxford Summer ID. Below, you can find scout notes and video on some of the standouts from the event.

QUICK HITS

Whit Davis 1B / RHP / Jackson Academy, MS / 2027

Is as fundamentally sound as any 2027 in the class and as the body continues to develop we will get more of a clear understanding of his ceiling. Behind the plate Davis has an advanced look with good footwork, a solid arm, and accuracy on all throws. On the mound the loose armed righty looks at home with outstanding feel for 3 pitches, including a plus change up that should only get better as his velocity increases. His fastball was up to 81 mph, though expect that number to gradually increase as well.

Briley Tubbs OF / 2B / Lewisburg, MS / 2026

Started the day off with an event best 6.88 60 and showed off some next level tools the rest of the day as well. Tubbs rattled off several line drives during his batting practice round using quick hands, a level swing path, with exit velocities up to 90 mph. He has a very comfortable look in the outfield, first step quickness, range, and an accurate arm up to 82 mph. Another solid player from the Lewisburg program.

Kaden Smith RHP / 3B / Lumberton, MS / 2026

Was the last arm to throw on Saturday at Hinds CC and gained some attention from the recruiters in attendance. The 6-foot-2, 167-pounder from Lumberton was up to 83 mph with his running fastball while showing feel for a sweeping slider and change up. The arm works long and loose with no restrictions while the frame screams more velocity could be on the way.

Brady Holmes RHP / 3B / Clinton, MS / 2027

Was another very intriguing arm from this weekend. The sophomore from Clinton has some life to his fastball that worked up to 82 mph though his change up was what caught our eye. With a very projectable 6-foot-2 frame he will throw harder and if he continues to gain command of his change up, which has great fading action near the plate, he should be a very tough challenge for opposing hitters.

Tucker Hux OF / LHP / Seminary, MS / 2027

Is a solid up and coming talent with a developing skill set. The left-handed hitting Hux shows the ability to drive the baseball to all fields and at the moment looks to have a middle to opposite field approach. As strength and quickness comes, look for him to pull the baseball more. The swing path is fairly level with occasional lift which should result in scattered line drives with current gap power. Hux also serves as a solid defensive option at both first base and the outfield.

Dylan Jones 3B / Pearl, MS / 2025

Finished with the highest average exit velocity of the event after squaring up several offerings during his batting practice round. The uncommitted senior third baseman used some loft to his swing, sending several baseballs deep into the gap to his pull side. Jones has a sturdy frame and with a little more focus on speed and strength he could put himself in a good situation heading into his final spring.
