Mississippi Class of 2027 Player Rankings: Newcomers

Recently, the Prep Baseball Mississippi Staff has released their most updated Player Rankings from the 2025, 2026 and 2027 classes. Our lists were updated after a busy summer circuit where we were able to get our eyes on tons of talent that the Magnolia State has to offer.

For the 2027 class specifically, there were some new faces that made their way onto the scene this past summer and found themselves within the latest 2027 Player Rankings as we have expanded our list to 75 prospects.

Today, we are going to highlight 5 newcomers who were recently added to the 2027 Player Rankings in Mississippi.

NEWCOMERS

Rylan Kentner RHP / SS / North Pontotoc High School, MS / 2027

Rankings StateRank: 8 / POS: 2

"Tried to steal the show on Tuesday during his time on the bump. Just a rising sophomore, Kentner showed advanced feel, and command for a slider that produced lots of swings and misses and spin rates over 2700. He also added a fastball that sat 84-86 mph (T87) with arm side run and spin up to 2417. Kentner has upside as a two way prospect, though he really stood out on the mound this week. Big time follow!"

Mason Mccain C / 3B / JACKSON PREPARATORY SCHOOL, MS / 2027

Rankings StateRank: 50 / POS: 9

Positional Profile: C/3B
Body: 5-9, 163-pounds. Projectable frame.
Hit: LHH. Balanced stance with normal hand set. Good controlled load and stride. Level bat path through the zone looking to drive the ball back up the middle. 58 mph bat speed with 9 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 82 max exit velocity, averaged 76.7 mph. 288' max distance.
Arm: RH. C-72 mph. Short arm action
Defense: 2.09-2.28 pop times. Good set up behind the plate. Good footwork on throws to 2nd. Good direction and gets the ball out well. Fundamental approach to bunt coverages and blocks.
ATH: 7.09 runner in the 60.
