Hattiesburg Summer ID: Quick Hits

Matt Miller
State Director

HATTIESBURG, MS - The Hattiesburg Summer ID was held on July 2nd at Pete Taylor Park on the campus of Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, MS. This event was an open event that consisted of some prospects from the 2025-2028 classes across all parts of Mississippi. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw simulated innings during gameplay and were able to get numbers and metrics via TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look at some of the standouts from the Hattiesburg Summer ID. Below, you can find the scout notes and video on top performers from the event.

QUICK HITS

Preston Anderson OF / 2B / Forrest County, MS / 2025

Had a very consistent day showing ability to play multiple positions across the diamond while putting together a nice round at the plate. The uncommitted rising senior has some instincts in the outfield but looks at home at second base with smooth actions and an accurate arm. At the plate the right handed hitter sprayed liners to all fields using a well balanced swing with exit velocities up to 90.3 mph. Anderson should play a key role in the Aggies success next spring.

Konnor Cazenave RHP / OF / Pearl River Central, MS / 2025

Was a nice surprise on Tuesday at Southern Miss. We saw the uncommitted righty throw in a game versus West Jones earlier in the spring and liked what we saw that night. Cazenave was up to 86 mph this week showing a bump from the spring with his strong, durable but we feel another velo jump is in the near future. He also shows solid secondary stuff which includes a 12/6 tumbling breaking ball up to 2526 spin. Pearl River made a solid run last season and will look to Cazenave to help them do it again.

Deuce Jenkins 1B / OF / Northwest Rankin, MS / 2027

Continues to build on an already impressive resume which includes the Junior Future Games and the Top Prospect Games. The rising sophomore is still over a year away from any D1 conversations but they are definitely coming. Jenkins is solid on defense at both first base and in the outfield but his bat is what draws the most attention at the moment with current pop and elite next level power potential. He can drive the baseball to all fields with carry and exit velocities approaching 100 mph. Jenkins played a good bit as a freshman for the Cougars last season and will probably be expected to be a middle of the order run producer in 2025.

Cooper Rayburn RHP / 1B / Jackson Academy, MS / 2025

Showed off some tools on Tuesday with solid numbers in several areas. He started the day with accurate throws from the outfield with velos up to 84 mph. At the plate, the Jones College recruit worked the middle of the field with line drives and exit velocities consistently around 90 mph. He then jumped on the mound and was in the zone with a running fastball that worked 85-87mph while really killing the spin (1233) with his change up.

Landry Winter RHP / SS / EUPORA HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2025

Had some jump to his fastball during his bullpen on Tuesday at USM. The East Central CC recruit had plenty of arm side action to his fastball that worked up to 89 mph. Winter also shows good shape to a slider that has sweeping action which will induce tons of swings and misses. With his 6-3, 200 pound durable build, as added strength comes this one could develop into something very special. We look forward to watching his continued progression.

Maddox Perry SS / RHP / GERMANTOWN HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2027

Is another up and coming prospect to keep an eye on as he continues to mature. The rising sophomore started the day with an event best 6.71 60. On defense, Perry showed fluid movement patterns with solid glove work and a strong, accurate arm. At the plate he used a balanced swing with a level bat path and all fields approach. His exit velocities were up to 86 mph but as overall body maturity happens that number will surely rise. Keep an eye on him!

Quentin Reuben 2B / SS / HATTIESBURG HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2026

Was one of the more intriguing players on Tuesday as he showed ability in most areas of his workout. With consistency, Reuben could find himself with next level options as he moves into his junior year. He runs decently, but should get a little faster. At the plate, he shows a solid line drive approach at times, and on defense more reps will be key. He’s definitely a player to keep on the radar which we plan to do.

William Parker C / 3B / Biloxi, MS / 2025

Was at the top of the list of multiple categories from this week's showcase. The uncommitted rising senior jumped on several pitches during his batting practice round with a gap to gap approach including an event high 98 mph exit velocity. Behind the plate, Parker used a solid arm and quick feet to produce very solid pop times of 1.88 to 1.97. Parker should be a key component to the Indians success on both sides of the ball come next spring.
