Hattiesburg Rising Stars ID: Quick Hits

Matt Miller
State Director

HATTIESBURG, MS - The Hattiesburg Rising Stars ID was held on July 2nd at Pete Taylor Park on the campus of Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, MS. This event was an open event that consisted of some prospects from the 2028-2029 classes across all parts of Mississippi. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw simulated innings during gameplay and were able to get numbers and metrics via TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look at some of the standouts from the Hattiesburg Rising Stars ID. Below, you can find the some of the top performers from the event.

QUICK HITS

Cooper McCoy 3B / RHP / Sumrall, MS / 2028

Should be a name most college recruiters get to know well over the next couple of years as he made quite the impression on Tuesday at USM. The 6-0, 165 pounder stepped on the mound and looked very polished with his delivery while working his fastball up to 82 mph. He also shows good feel for developing secondary stuff that will no doubt get better with maturity. Another solid arm on the way for the Bobcats.

Alex Sinclair 3B / RHP / Homeschool (MS), MS / 2028

Was as consistent as you can imagine for a rising freshman at a showcase. We saw Sinclair last year and the progression is evident as he bettered his numbers in all areas which is key for this age. At the plate, Sinclair stays inside the baseball well with a middle to opposite field, line drive approach. On defense, he looks to be moving in a really good direction to play both middle infield positions with steady hands and a solid accurate arm.

Dominick Green OF / SS / Lake Cormorant, MS / 2028

Has some current strength to him now and as overall maturity comes he has solid movement patterns that could result in him developing into a plus prospect. At the plate he has lots of loft to his swing which produces plenty of fly balls which could turn into plenty of home runs. With a slight adjustment to his swing plane he could be more dangerous presently. The next year of two will tell us more of where Green’s game is heading.

Cole Garrison OF / RHP / West Lauderdale, MS / 2028

Has some upside from the left side of the plate. On Tuesday the rising freshman used a level swing with occasional lift to drive the baseball. He used the opposite field mostly during his round, though with time and more development he should begin to pull the baseball more while still using the whole field. On defense Garrison has some development ahead of him both with his feet and arm. As said before, the next year or so will be huge.

Jase Schultz SS / 2B / Sumrall, MS / 2028

Has a quick bat with some present pop (85 mph EV) and will only get better. The athletic 5-10, 160 pounder will become more consistent in time, and when that time comes he will be tough to deal with for opposing pitchers. On defense, Shultz has a fairly polished look at SS with developing footwork and an accurate arm. Like most Rising Stars, as the body changes over the next year or two, Shultz looks to be a must follow.
