Golden Spikes Scout Day: Quick Hits
May 21, 2024
MERIDIAN, MS - The Golden Spikes Scout Day was held on Sunday, May 19th at Meridian CC in Meridian, MS. This event was an open event that consisted of some of the top prospects from the 2025-2027 classes within the Golden Spikes Organization. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Sunday.
Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from Sunday. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release different statistical leaderboards for the event along with other pieces of content.

QUICK HITS
+ INF/RHP Brayson Graham (2025, Wayne County) gets plenty of leverage from his 6-2, 180 pound frame. The righty has good life on his fastball and with the looseness and whip of his arm action he gets plenty of arm side runs as well. Graham worked his fastball in the 88-90 mph range on Sunday at the Golden Spikes Scout Day. The Jones College recruit showed solid action on a developing split while using a slider also in his secondary arsenal.

+ INF/RHP Jon Parker Hancock (2025, Neshoba Central) caught our attention last year as an arm that had lots of future potential. He continues to develop and still has tons of upside. On Sunday the Meridian CC recruit was 80-83 mph with his running fastball, with very solid shape to his breaking ball.

+ LHP Conner Moore (2025, South Jones) has very good feel and command for 3 pitches which is rare for a high school pitcher. On Sunday the uncommitted lefty was 80-83 with his fastball with a mimicking change up and fastball arm action. He also worked a sweeping slider just off the plate away from left handed hitters. Moore could be a steal for someone looking to bring on lefty that could start or come out of the pen.

+ INF/OF Eli Swearingen (2025, Clarkdale) displayed some impressive tools on Sunday at Meridian CC. The uncommitted utility player first ran a 6.53 60 right out of the gate. He then showed off a solid and accurate arm from both the infield (83 mph) and outfield (84 mph). At the plate Swearingen used fairly level bat path while spraying liner to all fields.

+ INF/RHP Jackson Whitcomb (2026, Lamar) had a eye opening day both at the plate and on the mound. The 6-2, 180 pounder hit from the left side of the plate and found the barrel with plenty of consistency. The uncommitted sophomore had a line drive approach with occasional loft and exit velocities up to 93.6. He then jumped on the mound and worked his fastball up to 86 mph with lots of downward tilt and a frame that says more is probably on the way.

+ OF/LHP Cade Culpepper (2026, Clarkdale) has the look of a player that is about to take off as his body is maturing quick. Another dual prospect in the making, Culpepper was 84 mph from outfield though we don't think he's near his ceiling. On the mound the long and lean framed lefty was up to 84 mph as well with an over the top delivery and plus action. At the plate he was mostly looking to pull with exit velocities into the mid 80's. This could be a huge calendar year for the rising junior.

+ RHP Luke Williams (2025, Clarkdale) stepped up to the mound and let it go on Sunday with most of his fastballs either 89 or 90 mph and showing late life. The East Central CC recruit also had one of the better change ups on the day with command while killing the spin fairly well. He is also gaining more feel of a curveball that was up to 2574 spin which would give him a solid arsenal heading into the summer and as well as his senior season.

+ C/RHP TJ Gordon (2025, Clarkdale) showed quick feet and a strong arm (77 mph) behind the plate on Sunday resulting in the top pop time of the day at 1.97. Gordon seems like a coaches dream as he showed well in several areas during the workout. At the plate the right handed hitter sprayed the ball to all field with a line drive approach and an exit velocity up to 91 mph. He also threw well on the mound using a fastball into the 80's with solid secondary offerings.
