Commitment Q&A: Ty Long
January 15, 2024
OUR Q&A
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Long: I wanted a program that is not afraid to get better. I wanted to go somewhere that I knew would push me and help me continue my career.
PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?
Long: Distance did not play a big factor in my decision but I knew I did not want to play anywhere in the North.
PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?
Long: For me, recruitment started in the 10th grade with looks from different schools. But Southern first saw me play at the Futures Games going into my junior year.
PBR: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?
Long: My favorite thing about Southern MS is the all out give everything vibe that is gives. I feel like everyone on the team, even the coaches are giving everything they have and it is always about the team.
PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
Long: Meridian CC & East Central CC
PBR: Who is the best player you have ever faced? What about them makes for a tough opponent?
Long: I faced Cooper Waddle in 10th grade. He was electric on the mound as a freshman and has just gotten better since then.
PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
Long: When I was in 10th grade I got my first offer. I’ve always been serious about playing at the next level. I did not know where I wanted to go when I was young, but I knew I wanted to play the game for as long as possible.
PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
Long: Put your head down and go to work. If you are around anyone that does not make you better then do not be around them. Do not compare yourself to any other player, you are your own self. Strive to better yourself in every way possible mentally and physically.
PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?
Long: Leading off two division games in a row with a bomb.
PBR: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?
Long: The team is high energy and wants it. We will not be the flashy team but we are going to give it 100% every game and practice. Every player is held to that standard at Ripley. We will win a lot of close games and we will make a run.
