Colin Chamblin

2025 LHP/1B Maddox Miller (Oak Grove High School) announced his commitment to Mississippi State University following the 2022 Prep Baseball Future Games that were held over at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA. Miller currently ranks at No. 5 in the 2025 Mississippi Player Rankings and continues to make strides both on the mound and at the plate. Last week our staff talked with Maddox on his commitment to play in Starkville, MS, the recruiting process and much more.

OUR Q&A

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Miller: I was looking for a program with a history of winning along with a strong family environment.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Miller: Not really, but I knew I wanted to stay in Mississippi.

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

Miller: My recruitment started to pick up around 15 years old and really took off after the Future Games.

PBR: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Miller: The coaches made feel wanted and like I could be a key player for the program in the future. The facilities were awesome as well.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Miller: Southern Miss and Pearl River CC

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

Miller: As a hitter Dylan Causey (USM commit) was definitely a tough at bat. My freshman year facing Stone Blanton, who now plays football at South Carolina was pretty intimidating.

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

Miller: My 9th grade season I started noticing development in my overall game.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Miller: If I could go back I would spend more time in the cages and the weight room.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Miller: I have two moments that stand out the most. Throwing a 1 hit shutout with 11 strikeouts over district rival Petal in the 10th grade and striking out 5 in two innings versus Canada at the Future Games.

PBR: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

Miller: I feel like for the first time in a couple of years we have a chance to compete for a district title. If we stay healthy hopefully we can go deep into the playoffs.
