OUR Q&A

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Saxton:  I knew kinda what to expect just talking to guys who had been through it before. The main thing I looked for in a college program is what program gives me the best chance to get to the league.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Saxton: I don’t mind being far away from home so moving to florida didn’t seem like a huge deal to me.

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

Saxton: I started receiving real attention from schools my sophomore year. NWF saw me the first time I put on an Aces uniform in my 15u Fall.

PBR: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Saxton: The toughness Coach Martin teaches, he’s a guy who believes in doing everything the right way and it has led to great success for his teams and his players individually.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Saxton: USM, Ole Miss, MS State, Tennessee, Coastal Carolina, PRCC, MCC, JC, ECCC, Chipola

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

Saxton: Jay McQueen plays with the same toughness and pride that I play with and it’s always fun to compete against that guy.

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

Saxton: I’ve known since I could make a clear thought out that this is all I’ve wanted to do. I didn't know how I would do it, I just knew I would.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Saxton: Run your own race. Don’t get caught up in rankings or what other people think of you, just work to be a better version of yourself every single day.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Saxton: Walk-off homerun against Lewisburg.
