Mike Maerz
Director of Florida Operations/Area Scout

West Palm Beach, FL- This past weekend, many of the top teams from across the country competed in West Palm Beach which included some of the top 2022s from throughout the state of Florida. Several of the players mentioned below have been standouts at previous PBR Florida events like MIF Greg Pettay who was recently featured in the Top 10 for the Initial Florida Class of 2022 Rankings and IF Christian Soto who committed to Florida International University shortly after this past weekend and was a notable standout from the 2018 Florida All-State Games earlier this summer.

Below are 25+ standouts with report along with video on players not only from the state of Florida, but nationally as well who will be key follows going forward for the rest of the fall and upcoming 2019 spring high school season. This also includes several standout 2023s:

2022s

Royer Stanley Cedeno Moreno, LHP, Dwight-Englewood (NJ)
One of the biggest standouts over the weekend. Very projectable and athletic frame at 6-foot, 180 pounds. High waisted. Loose, easy working arm with a repeatable delivery that showed plenty of arm side run with his fastball that sat between 83-85 mph. More to come and was still up to 84 in the fourth inning. Mixed in a 74-76 mph changeup and 70-72 mph curveball with shape. Pitched with confidence and threw a high percentage of strikes while generating numerous swings/misses, shutting down a tough Elite Squad lineup. Lots of upside. Batted fourth as well, displayed a pretty good swing on the ball with present bat speed from the right side of the plate.

Greg Pettay, MIF, The First Academy (FL)
Currently stands at 5-foot-7, 140 pounds with a compact, athletic frame. Shows above average tools all over the field. Quick hands with present bat speed from the right side, Pettay shows a confident approach and looks to jump on the first pitch out of the leadoff spot. Started the game off with a line drive single to right field, then immediately took second on the next pitch. Followed up his single later on by lacing a line drive over the left fielder’s head for a triple. In the field he shows quick and plenty of bounce in his step, ranging to his right and left freely with soft hands. Really heads up player.
