Travelers Scout Day - Pitchers

Tim Kay
PBR Tennessee Director of Scouting

On September 16th, Gagliano Field hosted a Scout Day for the Memphis Travelers organization.  This event included a position player workout, followed by pitchers throwing a 10-15 pitch pen on the game mound. Players were afforded the opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of the PBR Tennessee staff and college coaches in attendance. The following is a look at every pitcher that toed the rubber at the event.

BRAYDEN MATTHEWS / RHP / 3B / BARTLETT, TN / 2020

Max FB: 85, FB: 83-85, CB: 68-70, CH: 77-78, SL: 68-69
6-foot-0, 175-pound, RHP showed his 2-way ability, culminating with an impressive showing on the mound.  Medium, athletic frame w/ well-proportioned lean strength, super projectable, has just scratched the potential.  Pitches from a full wind-up into H ¾ to L ¾ release from the first base side of the rubber.  Clean, repeatable delivery.  Learning how to consistently engage lower half, tends to just be along for the ride. Quick arm w/ easy velo.  FB shows occasional short-arm side run.  Medium downer CB w/ proper shape and rotation.  SL thrown from a low ¾ release, ¾ tilt w/ proper shape, rotation.  Flashes tightness as a put-away pitch.  CH w/ arm-speed, fade and sink.  Around the zone w/ his 4-pitch mix, shows some feel for throwing to both corners with his FB, projects to command.
