June 13, 2018
The annual Louisiana Top Prospect Games took place on Tuesday, June 12th, at Nicholls State University, in Thibodeaux, LA. The invite only event saw forty top prospects from across the state of Louisiana perform in front of a dozen college coaches, and the Prep Baseball Report Louisiana scouting staff.
Tuesday’s Top Prospect Games continued the talent-rich tradition of the four-year history of the event, as numerous prospects emerged onto the recruiting scene with noteworthy performances.
In the days and weeks to come there will be complete coverage of the Top Prospect Games. Today, our scouting staff kicks off its analysis by taking a look at the top statistical performers from the event.
+ 2019 C/OF Landon Trosclair (Teurlings Catholic HS, LA) showed off a well-rounded tool set on Tuesday, posting numbers near the top of several statistical categories. The 6-foot, 180-pounder posted a 6.97 60 yard dash, and showed strength at contact with bat speed from the right side, posting an exit velocity of 89 mph. Trosclair also showed off quality arm strength, posting event best positional velocities from the outfield (87 mph), as well as, catcher (80 mph).
+ 2019 2B Luke Richard (St. Thomas More HS, LA) was one of the top overall performers on Tuesday, showing off high-level athleticism by posting an event best 6.69 60-yard dash. A right-handed hitter, Richard put together a quality round of batting practice showing feel for the barrel, spraying line-drives to both gaps. A wiry 5-foot-9, 150-pounf frame, Richard has surprising strength that generates bat speed and strength at contact that posted an event best exit velocity of 95 mph.
+ LSU-Eunice CC recruit, 2019 SS Cole Romero (Acadiana HS, LA) is already one of the top ranked players in Louisiana’s 2019 class, and the 5-foot-10, 172-pounder continued to show off a quality all around game. Romero showed enough athleticism to stay at shortstop going forward, posting 6.79 60-yard dash, as well as, easy arm strength with carry across the diamond and a positional velocity of 86 mph. A right-handed hitter, Romero showed feel for the barrel using a line-drive approach, and sprayed the ball from gap-to-gap during batting practice with quality bat speed that posted an exit velocity of 93 mph.
+ 2019 OF Cade Simpson (Holy Cross HS, LA) was relatively unknown heading into the Top Prospect Games, but the athletic 5-foot-11, 170-pound outfielder caught the attention of those in attendance Tuesday. Simpson showed fluid athleticism posting a 7.01 60-yard dash, as well as, showing fluid footwork with soft hands, and quality arm strength that posted a positional velocity of 85 mph from the outfield.
