The Class of 2019 showcase took place on Wednesday, June 20th, at Northwest Community College, in Senatobia, MS. The open event saw sixteen 2019 prospects from across the state of Mississippi perform in front of several college coaches, and the Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff.

Today, the Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff takes another look at a few more quick hits, observations and revelations from Wednesday’s Class of 2019 North Showcase.

+ 2019 OF/RHP Connor Spencer (Hernando HS) displayed his two-way potential. A physically framed 6-foot-2, 215-pound left-handed hitter, Spencer registered an exit velocity of 90 mph and laced balls through the middle of the field during batting practice with loose hacks and backspin ability. On the mound the right-handed pitcher ran his fastball up to 84 mph with fill to command the zone.

+ 2019 C/1B John Cartwright (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) hammered balls from the right center field during batting practice. The left-handed hitter has a balanced setup with simple strength in his hack. Natural lift with loose hands and great extension through contact and he blasted balls to all fields. He registered the top exit velocity of 93 mph off the tee as well as the best pop time at 1.90 seconds.

+ 2019 RHP/SS Chase Logan (Grenada HS) displayed possibly the quickest arm of the day running his fastball up to 86 mph fastball and posting an outfield velocity 88 mph. The breaking ball should continue to improve but showed near 12/6 with depth at 67-69 mph.  The wiry 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitter also showed a flat path with barrel control as he laced line-drive/ground balls during his batting practice round, posting 86 mph exit velocity.

+ 2019 3B/1B Dylan Bond (Lewisburg HS) has receptive hands on the infield, fundamental footwork, exchanges the ball clean and easy, creating momentum towards target, and has an accurate arm that allows him to make strong, accurate throws as he posted an infield velocity of 85 mph. The right-handed hitter showed well during batting practice, as the barrel entered the zone quickly wit smooth hack, and natural lift in finish posted an exit velocity of 87 mph.

+ 2019 RHP Jake Reeder (North Pontotoc HS) has a wiry-projectable pitcher’s frame at 6-foot, 155-pounds. Reeder repeated delivery well as he worked from a high slot and high front side, running his fastball up to 84 and spinning a curveball with 11/5 shape and depth at 68-71 mph.
