Outlook

Germantown returns a young but talented group from a team that finished with 25 wins last season. But the Mavericks will need to do more than just win their district if they want to make their mark in 2018.

The lineup is strong for the Mavericks, headlined by two-way player, Mississippi State commit Eric Newsom. Newsom has an athletic, lean frame at 6-foot-4 and the left-handed hitter has shown all-around athleticism and projectable power with solid arm strength on the mound. Look for infielders Matt Corder, Bryson Ware, and Carson Fisher to have a significant impact in the lineup this season as well. Corder, Ware and Fisher are all solid defenders that have displayed quality actions and range but will be expected to have a larger impact at the plate throughout 2018. Patrolling the outfield for the Mavericks will be Mississippi State recruit, Benjamin Bell and Hinds commit, Connor Carter, which have both displayed the athleticism and speed to shutdown the gaps.

On the mound for the Mavericks will be Blake Dilmore and Jordan Thompson who will play a large role as they are coming off of a productive 2017 campaign where they punched a combined 64 opposing hitters while only walking 15. RHP Harrison Haley, a Hinds CC commit, transferred in this summer and should be a huge addition to the pitching staff. Haley was a top performer at the Mississippi All-State Games where he pumped his fastball 85-88 mph with heaviness and command in the zone. Also expect LHP Trevor Waddell to see more time on the mound this year as he displayed feel for three pitches at the recent Preseason Prospect ID, sitting 81-82 mph with his fastball.

With a deep pitching staff and a number of key hitters returning, Germantown will be tough to beat.
