The Mississippi high school season kicks off on February 26, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 29, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Outlook

Taking the number one spot in the Preseason Power 25 Rankings is a loaded Madison Central squad. The Jaguars return a balanced, veteran club from a team that won 19 games a season ago.  Right-handers Logan Savell and Regi Grace will headline the pitching staff. Savell, a Mississippi recruit was 5-3 last season with a 2.29 ERA. Grace, who was out most of last season with an injury, will have a huge impact on this year's pitching rotation as well as at the plate as a left-handed hitter. 2018 Truett Bourne will be expected to have an increased role in 2018 after throwing 18 innings posting a 0.38 ERA. Add in the young talent of 2020 RHP/SS Brooks Rice, a Louisiana State recruit, that is ranked No. 5 in Mississippi’s 2020 class, and you have four arms that can lead the Jaguars through district. 

The lineup is loaded with veteran talent, including 2018 OF Hunter Blaylock. The Mississippi State commit hit .259 with 12 RBI, scoring 15 runs with 5 extra base hits. 2018 OF Kirkland Trahan (Jones County JC recruit) is a strong left-handed hitter that hit .369 last year with 25 RBI. East Central CC commit, 3B Khristian Washington will also play a significant role in the lineup coming off of a productive 2017 campaign where he led the team in hitting, posting a .383 batting average while driving in 30 runs. Holding down the duties behind the plate will be Mississippi commit, Knox Loposer.

One thing is for sure, the Jaguars are loaded with next level talent and will be a tough team to beat in 2018.
