Magnolia State Games: Quick Hits
June 23, 2022
Clinton, MS - The Magnolia State Games was held on June 21st & 22nd at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS. This event was an invite-only event that consisted of prospects from the 2023-2026 classes. These players went through a pro-style workout and took batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion to record hitting metrics. Hitters also had the opportunity to showcase their skills against pitchers in a live game setting. Pitchers were able to throw during gameplay and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing over the two-day event.
Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from the event. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release Statistical Leaderboards for the event then transition into releasing individual scouting reports for each player in attendance.
2023's
C/RHP Jayden Adcox, Forest (MS), 2023
East Central CC commit. 6-foot-0, 225-pounds, is a physical presence from the right-side of the box. Made some loud noise with the stick during his BP round, took some aggressive swings, shooting liners and showing some serious power to the pull-side of the field, with an EV up to 97 mph. Was also impressive behind the dish during the defensive segment of the workout, recording pop-times in the 1.96-2.08 range.

3B/RHP Dayne Sanford, Pillow Academy (MS), 2023
Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, is an intriguing presence on the diamond. With very raw actions within his skill set, Sanford forces you to pay attention. He started the day with an event best 6.68 60, then showed his power potential with multiple upper 90 exit velocities with launch. Sanford finished the day showing upside on the mound with a fastball (ASR, 2230-2386 spin) reaching 85 mph and developing offspeed stuff.

Uncommitted. 5-foot-9, 180-pounds, has an athletic skill-set to his frame. The stocky right-handed hitting catcher had a consistent round of batting practice during the workout on Tuesday with multiple liners back up the middle and to the pull-side of the field. Moves well behind the plate, is a 7.18 runner and showed pop-times between 1.94-2.03.

2024's
RHP/SS Stone McCaughey, Lewisburg (MS), 2024
Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 160-pounds, was easily one of the most electric arms on the bump over the two days of gameplay. The rising junior worked with a two-pitch offering, producing swing-and-miss material with both pitches. The fastball played at 87-89 mph and topped out at 90 mph with arm-side run, while the slider had more of some late bite and sharp breaking action at 77-78 mph. Very intriguing arm that has plenty of upside left in the tank.

Missouri commit. 6-foot-0, 190-pounds, has tremendous upside all over the diamond. An infielder with solid footwork and a strong accurate arm (87 mph), though with his solid speed and instinctive play he would probably excel at multiple positions on the field. At the plate Richardson, using a rhythmic load and controlled knee lift, found the best part of the barrel with consistency with multiple upper 90 exit velos along with an event best, 99.3.
.@MizzouBaseball commit & ‘24 3B/1B Samuel Richardson (@SenatobiaHS) putting on an impressive showing during BP. Launching ? to all parts of the field, also homered twice w/ an EV at 99 mph.

1B/RHP Chase Russell, Madison Central (MS), 2024
Southern Miss commit. 6-foot-2, 195-pounds, has a big sturdy frame and already has a very clear understanding of how to pitch. Russell stays in control of the body throughout his delivery resulting in consistent release on all pitches. Fastball has solid arm side action and currently sits in the 87-89 mph range, with a change that mimics the FB well at 77-78 mph.
.@SouthernMissBSB commit & ‘24 1B/RHP Chase Russell (@ChaseRussell28; @Jaguar_Baseball) worked around some traffic in the first inning of his outing but managed a clean second inning w/ a pair of punch outs.

SS/RHP Drew Lambert, Madison-Ridgeland (MS), 2024
Uncommitted. 6 foot 1, 160-pound, has a very solid skill set with fluid movements and great footwork at the middle infield positions. Lambert will continue to grow his prospect status with added strength and speed. At the plate, Lambert is at his best when using the whole field with a line drive approach and as his consistency with that approach gets better look for him to be an even bigger run producer on offense.
‘24 RHP/SS Drew Lambert (@Drew_Lambert_1; Madison-Ridgeland HS) has some clean actions at both the plate and in the field.

C/1B Banks Teater, Magee (MS), 2025
Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 170-pounds, had an impressive showing during his BP round on Tuesday. Posted several EV’s in the 90’s during his BP round. The left-handed hitting catcher shows a relaxed approach with plenty of juice to all fields. Has a smooth stroke that allows the hands to work and produce pop. The long, lean frame has plenty of upside and room to add potential strength and size. Produced pop-times in the 2.00-2.03 range.

Mississippi State commit. 6-foot-2, 180-pounds, Continues to improve in all areas of his game. Fluid movements and solid footwork at the SS position along with throwing accuracy and increasing arm strength. Power seems to be coming along as well as Parker found the deep gaps on a few of his swings with exit velocities regularly approaching 90 mph.

Mississippi State commit. 6-foot-4, 195-pounds, Currently the #1 ranked player from the 2025 class, Parker showed why during his batting practice round with multiple upper 90’s exit velocities (97.2) and the ability to find the barrel with lots of noise. Parker also showed arm strength and accuracy on his throws from right field with velo steady at 87 mph.

LHP/OF Gardner Young, Jackson Prep (MS), 2025
Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 160-pounds, was one of the top performers on the bump during gameplay on Tuesday. The southpaw was in total control of hitters, working with a FB/BB combo that created an uncomfortable matchup against left-handed hitters. Young had excellent feel for flipping the breaking ball in for a strike during any count, showed the ability to pitch backwards and kept opposing hitters guessing. Worked the fastball in the low 80’s, touching 83 mph. The breaking ball played at 68-72 mph with 1/7 shape.

During his appearance on the mound in gameplay on Tuesday, the right-hander worked primarily with his fastball (83-85 mph) and established it to both sides of the plate. Flashed a sharper slider at 72-73 mph. Shows some mature actions on the mound, has clean mechanics and potential to make strides in velocity with his solid 6-1, 190 frame.
