The Mississippi Diamond Notes is a new feature for 2023 that will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight those positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Tuesday of the high school season that are deserving to be highlighted based on their performance.

For now, let's take a look at those players from across the state highlighted in this week's Mississippi Diamond Notes. 

 

DIAMOND NOTES: FEBRUARY 27th - march 4th

 

Dylan Causey C / RHP / South Jones, MS / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 10 / POS: 3 OverallRank: 348 / POS: 40 Sophomore Dylan Causey was outstanding in his outing this past week throwing 5 innings, allowing only 1 hit, 0 earned runs, 6 strikeouts while running his fastball up to 89 mph. The Southern Miss commit is also a dual threat for the Braves serving as a catcher and 3rd baseman with pop at the plate.

Maddox Miller LHP / 1B / Oak Grove , MS / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 7 / POS: 2 OverallRank: 212 / POS: 20 Sophomore Maddox Miller continued his solid start to 2023 throwing another 6 innings, scattering 3 hits, allowing 1 run, while picking up 8 strikeouts. The Mississippi State commit was 86/87 mph with a next level change up and is now 3-0, with a 0.38 ERA on the season with 32 strikeouts in just 18 1/3 innings. Miller, serving as the teams DH is also hitting at a .400 clip with 8 rbi's.

Coy Clements C / OF / Oak Grove, MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 18 / POS: 1 The still uncommitted junior Coy Clements went 4 for 9 this past week with a double, a home run (grandslam), and 7 rbi’s. Clements is now hitting .480 with 3 home runs and 12 rbis' on the season. He also is one of the top catchers in the 2024 class throughout the state.

Logan Fontenelle SS / RHP / Biloxi High School, MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 81 / POS: 14 Junior Logan Fontanelle had a very solid week while hitting .700 BA (7 for 10) with a 1 HR, 2 doubles, 4 RBI, and 5 stolen bases. The uncommitted Fontanelle also picked up a win on the mound throwing 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 earned run, while striking out 12. A big contributor to the Indians 8-0 start.

Bryson Pisarich / Biloxi, MS / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 68 / POS: 1 Biloxi's Bryson Pisarich went 7 for 13 this past week picking up a couple of doubles and driving in 4 runners. The South Alabama commit is hitting at a .400 clip on the early season with a homer and 5 runs batted in.

Ian Henry / Biloxi, MS / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 119 / POS: 8 Another Biloxi Indian with a solid week was senior Ian Henry who went 7 for 15 with 4 doubles and 3 rbi's. The East Mississippi recruit is hitting .333 with 3 stolen bases on the young season.

Samuel Richardson 3B / OF / lewisburg, MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 10 / POS: 3 OverallRank: 348 / POS: 28 Lewisburg's Sam Richardson (2024) went 6 for 13 with 2 home runs, a pair of triples, and a double on the week. The Missouri commit, who's has some serious thunder in his bat, also drove in 6 runners and scored 5 times himself.

Joseph Parker SS / 2B / Purvis , MS / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 3 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 125 / POS: 36 Purvis's Jo Jo Parker had himself a productive week going 6 for 15 with 3 doubles, 2 home runs, and 5 RBI. The Mississippi commit also scored 9 times, walked 5 times, and picked up 3 stolen bases. Parker also serves as a top arm for the Tornado as he also picked up a win on the mound last week.

Walker Long C / 1B / Sumrall, MS / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 108 / POS: 16 Sumrall's Walker Long went 5 for 10  with a double, a home run, and 7 runs batted in last week. The Holmes CC recruit is now hitting .385 this season with 2 homers and a team leading 16 runs batted in.

Drew Davis C / RHP / Sumrall, MS / 2027 Drew Davis of Sumrall is picking up some valuable playing time as an 8th grader and making the most of it as he threw 5 1/3 innings last week, allowing no runs, only 1 hit, 0 walks, and 7 strikeouts. The young righty also picked up 2 wins for the Bobcats and now has 3 total for the 2023 season.

Montravious Winn SS / RHP / Ridgeland , MS / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 41 / POS: 6 Ridgeland's Montravious "Trae" Winn threw 5 innings, allowed 2 hits while striking out 10. The Louisiana Lafayette recruit now has 22 strikeouts in just 10 innings on the season.

Langston Cotten 2B / Northwest Rankin, MS / 2022 Northwest Rankin's Langston Cotten (2023) went 6 for 7 last week with 2 doubles, 2 home runs, and 4 runs batted in. The slick fielding shortstop and East Central CC recruit is hitting .522 on the season for the Cougars.

Jayden Adcox C / RHP / Forest , MS / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 74 / POS: 8 Forest's Jayden Adcox went 6 for 12 with 3 doubles and 7 runs batted in last week. The East Central CC recruit was also stellar on the mound with a 7 inning complete game win, allowing 5 hits, 2 runs, and 7 strikeouts. Adcox is now hitting .333 with 2 homers and 12 rbi's on the season and is 2-1 with a 2.77 ERA and 31 strikeouts in just 17 innings.

Caden Carroll LHP / Mooreville, MS / 2023 Mooreville's Caden Carroll threw 7 innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 earned run, while striking out 10 in his start this past week. The Uncommitted senior left handed pitcher works around 80 mph with solid secondary stuff.

Vaiden Ellis RHP / RHP / Oxford, MS / 2023 Vaiden Ellis of Oxford has an outstanding performance last week as the senior threw a 7 inning complete game shutout, allowing only 2 hits, while striking out 8. The Meridian CC recruit is now 3-0 with a 0.88 ERA for the #3 ranked Chargers.
