All-State Games: Stats Breakdown

Ronald Sims
Mississippi Scouting Director

The first annual Mississippi All-State Games took place on Sunday, November 12th, at Community Bank Park on the campus of Jones County Junior College, in Ellisville, MS. The premier invite only event saw just under sixty of the top prospects from the state of Mississippi perform in front of several college coaches, the Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff, as well Prep Baseball Report Louisiana Scouting Director Trey Sofio.

In the days and weeks to come there will be complete coverage from Sunday’s All-State Games. Today, our scouting staff kicks off its coverage by taking a look at the top statistical performers from the event.

Mississippi State recruit, 2020 1B/3B Kellum Clark (Jackson Academy (MS)) has been established as one of the top players in Mississippi’s 2020 class entering the event on Sunday. Currently ranked No. 1 in Mississippi and No. 12 Overall, Clark reaffirmed his elite status at the All-State Games by putting together an impressive all-around day. Clark’s present strength and bat speed was on clear display during batting practice as he drove balls to all fields with big time pull side power, recording a 95 mph exit velocity.

Currently ranked No. 2 in Mississippi's 2019 class, Mississippi recruit, C/OF Hayden Dunhurst (Pearl River Central HS, (MS)) put his tools on full display on Sunday. Standing a stocky, strong, 6-foot, 215-pound, the left-handed hitter displayed quality bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 95 mph, taking a loud batting practice driving balls with authority to the pull side. Dunhurst also showed premium arm strength recording pop times ranging from 1.85-2.01-seconds, as well as posting a positional velocity of 90 mph from the outfield.

Jones County Junior College signee, 2018 RHP/IF Brendan Hardy (Harrison Central HS, (MS)) was electric in his outing on Sunday. A long, loose arm action into a high-3/4 release, Hardy pitched 86-89 mph with his fastball showing downhill angle and occasional late life to the arm side. Hardy also showed feel to spin a breaking ball that flashed depth with 11/5 shape at 74-75 mph.

Pearl River Community College signee, 2018 OF Joe Gary (Pascagoula HS, (MS)) has had a strong summer and fall season, creating significant buzz, both locally and nationally, amongst baseball insiders. The left-handed hitter recorded the top exit velocity of the day at 96 mph, as the bat speed, combined with his twitchy, athletic profile, could possibly attract significant attention from professional baseball this sping.

Uncommitted 2018 SS/OF Ryan Jackson (Ridgeland HS, (MS)), was another big winner on Sunday, as he posted numbers near the top of multiple categories at the event. An athletic 6-foot, 180-pound frame with present strength, he began the day showing athleticism posting a 6.87 60-yard dash time. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter made consistent hard contact to his pull side, showing bat speed that produced a 90 mph exit velocity. Jackson also showed off quality arm strength during defensive evaluations, posting an infield positional velocity of 85 mph, and threw 88 mph from the outfield.

Stay tuned as the Prep Baseball Report Mississippi staff will have extensive coverage with complete analysis of the All-State Games, in the days and weeks to come.
