HATTIESBURG, MS - The Hattiesburg Open was held on Tuesday, June 6th at the The University of Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, MS. This event was an open event that consisted of some of the top prospects from the 2024-2027 classes across all parts of Mississippi. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Tuesday.

Positional Profile: C/1B
Body: 6-4, 195-pounds. Tall, projectable frame
Hit: RHH. Balanced stance with slightly lower hand set. Quick, easy load and stride. Gets good separation in hands. Some loft to swing. Works with a middle to pull side approach. 61.8 mph bat speed with 10 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 87 max exit velocity, averaged 87 mph. 287' max distance.
Arm: RH. C-67 mph. Short, quick arm action
Defense: 2.32-2.41 pop times. Solid setup behind the plate. Good footwork and direction on throws to 2nd. Good body positioning on blocks and bunt coverages.

David Steelman, Clinton (MS), 2026
Positional Profile: C/3B
Body: 5-11, 152-pounds. Projectable frame
Hit: SH. Balanced stance with hands set slightly inside back shoulder. Slight preset load Switch hitter with a controlled load and stride with knee lift from both sides. Quick hands. Level bat path with a line drive approach to all fields. 61 mph bat speed with 10 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 88 max exit velocity, averaged 88 mph. 309' max distance.
Arm: RH. C-68 mph. INF-71 mph. Short, quick arm action
Defense: 2.31-2.42 pop times. Developing footwork on the infield. Good glovework allows for quick transfers. Good look behind the plate as well. Good footwork allows for quick transfers on throws to 2nd. Good setup for bunts and fundamental approach to bunt coverages.

Body: 5-11, 165-pounds. Projectable frame
Hit: RHH. Balanced stance with slightly higher hand set. Easy load and stride with slight knee lift. Level bat path with developing hands. Works well with the pitch to all fields for a line drive approach. 57.3 mph bat speed with 7 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 83 max exit velocity, averaged 83 mph. 267' max distance.
Arm: RH. C-69 mph. Short quick arm action
Defense: 2.27-2.34 pop times. Solid set up behind the plate. Still developing though shows good footwork. Good arm that will get stronger with maturity. Solid positioning on blocks and bunt coverages.

Hit: RHH. Balanced stance with hands in line with back shoulder. Controlled load and stride. Attacks the baseball out front. Sometimes lunges onto front leg. Works well middle to pull side with a line drive approach. 72.8 mph bat speed with 29 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 96 max exit velocity, averaged 96 mph. 374' max distance.
Arm: RH. C-72 mph. OF-81 mph. Short, quick arm action
Defense: 2.16-2.19 pop times. Good look in the outfield. Good footwork. Easily approaches ground balls, fielding them out front to the glove side for good throws to home. Solid setup behind the plate as well. Good footwork and direction on throws to 2nd. Good positioning on blocks and bunt coverages.
