2024 Junior Future Games: Team Mississippi, Quick Hits

Matt Miller
State Director

From Wednesday, July 24, through Sunday, July 28, Prep Baseball is hosting the next edition of its prestigious Future Games and Junior Future Games at LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, GA., featuring the country's best uncommitted talent. And, for the first time ever, the Future Games is hosting not just its typical set of incoming juniors and freshmen, but also a 17U division of uncommitted Class of 2025 players who will participate in the inaugural Senior Future Games.

On the first day of the 2024 Future Games, all players representing grad classes 2025, 2026, and 2028 will be participating in a pro-style workout in front of a fleet of Division I coaches alongside fellow prospects representing nearly every state in the nation.

Inside this piece, we'll be highlighting some of top performers from Team Mississippi at the 2024 Prep Baseball Junior Future Games.

TEAM MISSISSIPPI: QUICK HITS

Axton Westmoreland LHP / 1B / Hernando, MS / 2028

Is one of the top up and coming dual prospects in the 2028 class and everyone will know it soon. Like the rest of the class, overall body maturity will determine just how good he can be. Fundamentally, Westmoreland is advanced as you will see at this age with a solid swing, synced up delivery, and feel for 3 pitches already. On Sunday he carved up his opponents using a fastball up to 81 mph, a breaking ball to both sides of the plate, and a plus change to right handed hitters. It was very special to watch and just the beginning for the 6-0, 160 pounder from Hernando.

Drew Stanton C / OF / MYRTLE ATTENDANCE CENTER, MS / 2028

Has plenty of present power for his age with more on the way which is scary for Mississippi high school pitchers. The 6-0, 190 pound outfielder from Myrtle found multiple barrels during game play in Atlanta last week including a double over the centerfielder that showed a glimpse of what’s to come. Stanton has the ability to drive the baseball to all fields with authority which makes him extremely tough to pitch to.

Dawson Lewis SS / 2B / Northwest Rankin Middle, MS / 2029

was added to the Mississippi roster after a solid showing at our Jackson Rising Stars event and with the Junior Futures loaded with 2028 players it made us wonder if he would be overmatched. Lewis was not overmatched at all and came away with several big hits during the week helping Team Ms take the title. Lewis, a Northwest Rankin product, was also very solid on defense playing in the middle of the diamond. Make sure to follow this young man as we think he will continue to develop into something special.

Ethan Killough C / RHP / KOSSUTH HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2028

Has the frame you get excited about when watching the Junior Futures show up to the park, and then you see him play and get even more excited. In the batters box, Killough is looking to do damage on just about every swing. The Kossuth Aggie uses a mainly pull side approach with loft and developing power. During the Wednesday workout he had exit velocities into the low 90’s and it carried over into game play as he also picked up some key hits for his squad.

Kipptyn Briggs SS / RHP / KOSSUTH HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2028

Has a very polished left handed swing that is gaining consistency. From start to finish the swing is synced up and balanced while using a gap to gap line drive approach. We look forward to seeing Briggs develop over the next several years as big time potential is there. He doesn’t try to do too much in the moment other than find the barrel and he found several this week in run producing situations. The weight room could be a game changer for the Kossuth Aggie!

Eli McDaniels C / MOOREVILLE HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2029

From Mooreville will be a well sought after left handed hitter in the future though currently is only 13 years old. He swung the bat like an upperclassman last week for Team Mississippi, picking up several big hits for a very good hitting squad. The sturdy built 6-0, 180 pounder excels behind the plate as well with developing footwork and a strong arm which was up to 75 mph from behind the plate during last week’s workout. He along with older brother Wyatt, a Junior Future last year, will make Mooreville a hot spot for recruiters over the next few seasons.
