Team Missouri Future Games: Game 1 Recap
July 25, 2024
On Thursday, July 25th, Team Missouri kicked off the gameplay portion of the Future Games with a matchup against Team Kansas. Several prospects from the ‘Show Me’ state showed well in the opening act, and you’ll learn more about them below.
GAME ONE TAKEAWAYS
+ RHP Dylan Curtis (Francis Howell, 2026) came out of the gates hot for Team Missouri, fanning four over his two innings of work, including three punchouts in the first inning under unfavorable weather conditions. Curtis, who’s long been known for his high pitchability, owns all sorts of upside in a long, lean-limbed 6-foot-5, 170-pound frame. He commanded both corners of the plate with a fastball that played at 85-88, touching 89 mph on his firmest bullet, and consistently worked ahead on his opposition. Curtis' go-to secondary in this look was a naturally fading changeup that he threw early and often, especially to left-handed hitters, pulling the string on it at 75-77 mph. He did show a 72-73 mph breaking ball with some sweep, landing it for strikes on the glove side corner of the plate. One of the state’s top prospects, Curtis came away as a name-to-know on a national scale and should be plenty busy come August 1st.

+ C Kendall Hagedorn (Smith-Cotton, 2026) continues to prove he’s one of the purest hitters in this class. Hagedorn picked up a pair of hits in Thursday’s game - he squared up the first pitch he saw down the right field line for a triple and juiced a 98.8 mph double to the left field wall in his first at-bat. He continues to show arm strength from the chute as well, throwing a backside runner out in a double steal attempt late in the game.

+ RHP/INF Tyler Putnam (Battle, 2026) continues to prove he’s a true dynamic asset on both sides of the ball. He picked up two hits on Thursday - an RBI single to center field and a 95 mph barrel later in the game. Putnam’s defensive capabilities were on full display too, as he made a diving snag at shortstop that most 6-foot-5, 190-pound juniors don’t make. One of the top arms in the state, Putnam is set to toe the rubber at 7:00 PM on Saturday night against Team Illinois.

+ RHP Brody Crane (Neosho, 2026) showed effortless velocity over two innings, pitching at 89-93 mph with his fastball. The 6-foot, 205-pound right-hander also spun a 77-79 mph slider, though he turned to it sparingly in this outing.

+ RHP Henry Vedder (Washington, 2026) offers premium projection on a 6-foot-4, 180-pound frame and flashed intrigue over his two innings of work. His fastball peaked at 90 mph on his firmest bullet, which came later in his outing, and he pitched in the mid-to-upper-80s. Though he’s still developing full feel for the zone, Vedder’s loose arm action and upside limbs suggest he’ll only continue to climb from a velocity perspective. He flashed feel to land a sweeping breaking ball at 77-79 mph for strikes to the glove side corner and also threw a low spin splitter (900 RPM) in a similar velocity band.

+ OF GT Taylor (CBC, 2026) turned around an inner-half 90 mph fastball off the left-center wall in his first at-bat for a standup double. Taylor, who holds lean strength and room for more within a 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame, is one of the top prospects in the state’s 2026 class.

+ MIF Brendan Pyle (Fort Zumwalt East, 2026) has a track record of in-game performance in front of our staff and he added on to that resume today. Pyle found a barrel once again, like he did in both of his BP rounds yesterday, and sprayed a line drive back up the middle in his second trip to the plate.

+ RHP Preston McCracken (Republic, 2026) is a physical 6-foot-3, 190-pound athlete to follow for Team Missouri. McCracken pumped his fastball in the mid-to-upper-80s, touching 89 mph early, and he turned to a 72-74 mph breaking ball off it as his main secondary, while also showing a tight slider at 76-77 mph on occasion.

+ MIF Brady Tanner (Francis Howell, 2026) sprayed a hard single back up the middle of the field in his final at-bat. Tanner also made a tough double play turn look easy, working quick to release with a clean transfer, at second base earlier in the game.

+ MIF/RHP Brennan McLaughlin (Platte County, 2026) threw the final half inning for Team Missouri and came out of the ‘pen with some juice. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound incoming junior pumped his fastball at 88-90 mph from a loose, athletic, and low-effort arm, while also spinning an upper-70s slider that breached the 2500 RPM mark.

+ C/1B Brooks Zumwalt (Summit Christian, 2026) took one of the loudest BP rounds of the day at Wednesday’s workout and followed that up with a 100 mph barrel deep into the right-center field gap that nearly left the yard. Zumwalt offers premium physicality at 6-foot-5, 190-pounds and is a must follow left-handed bat for Team Missouri.
