On Saturday, February 17th, the Prep Baseball Illinois staff traveled to the SportsBarn in Wood River, IL, to host the inaugural Southern Illinois Preseason ID. This event, which was open to all current HS grad classes, featured 60+ players from southern Illinois that participated in a pro-style workout in front of our staff, gathering unrivaled data and measurables in the process. 

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, the Illinois State Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that take place at the tail end of the summer.

We started our post-event roll out last week with the catchers, which you can find HERE. Today, we’ll turn our attention to the outfield crop from this winter, and you’ll find all of the scouting reports on those particular players below. 

TOP OVERALL PROSPECTS

1. Greyson Rathgeb, Edwardsville (IL), 2025
Positional Profile: OF/OF
Body: 6-1, 180-pounds. Athletic, well-proportioned frame with lean strength and room for more.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup, fluid barrel tip load, controlled leg lift with balance through finish.  Easy, athletic hands. Creates leverage through contact, gap-to-gap feel, polished. 68 mph bat speed with 18 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 92 max exit velocity, averaged 85.1 mph. 321’ max distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 91 mph. Long arm draw, over-the-top finish. Life and carry out the hand.

Hit: LHH. Tall narrow stance, slow and controlled load. Subtle lead leg lift, balanced through contact.  Quick hands, loose and easy. Works slightly uphill to contact, repeats. On the barrel to the pull-side, gap-to-gap feel.  66.2 mph bat speed with 13 G’s of rotational acceleration.
