Prep Baseball Report Player of the Week

 Written by Ethan Silverman

Sophomore C/RHP Tanner Murphy (right) didn't let the rain soaked week effect his play. Although playing in only two games, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound Murphy continues to make his case as one of the top players in the Class of 2013 and throwing his name in the hat as one of the top players overall in Missouri.

On the week, Murphy continued his torrid pace at the plate, going 7-for-9. Of those seven hits, six went for extra bases: five homeruns, and one double. Murphy also drove in eleven runs and scored eight. On the season, Murphy is batting .654 with eleven homeruns, thirteen doubles, and one triple. Of his thirty four hits, twenty six have been for extra bases. Murphy also has thirty RBIs and scored thirty eight runs, with an OBP of .723 and slugging percentage of 1.558.

On the mound, Murphy went 1-0, allowing one run and three hits over seven innings, striking out eight. On the season, Murphy is putting up incredible pitching numbers, going 5-0 with sixty four strikeouts over thirty nine innings allowing only nine runs with an ERA of 1.26 and holding opposing batters to a paltry .127 batting. average.

"Tanner has been an outstanding player for us. He is a very coachable kid," said Coach Tim Harmon. "This is my 20th year of coaching, and he (Murphy) is one of the best players I have coached. Tanner measures up to Blake DeWitt, who is one of the best players to ever come out of Southeastern Missouri; and Tanner is still only a sophmore."
