September 11, 2024
With the summer coming to a close, and the fall set to start shortly, the Prep Baseball Missouri staff has once again updated the state’s 2027 rankings. Our expansive knowledge of the state’s incoming sophomore class has only grown since our last update, with a full summer circuit of showcases, tournaments, the inaugural Super Sophomore Games, and more under our belt.

Below we’ve detailed this update at a more in-depth level, shining some light on the top of the board, as well as a more overarching look at the class as a whole, which you can find by reading below.
The Top 10
Our top 10 holds relatively steady with the top 8 remaining unchanged after a full summer of action. INF Cole Chambers (St. Louis University) holds on to the top spot followed by LHP/OF Chase Stieferman (Capital City; Missouri commit) and RHP Brandon Ott (DeSmet Jesuit). INF Max Partney (Hillsboro) and C Carson Leuthauser (Rockwood Summit) round out the top 5.
Two new names make their debut in our top 10 as RHP Evan Magnuson (Platte County) and INF Brady Yates (Glendale) enter at No. 9 and 10 respectively after strong summers and impressive performances at the Central Region Super Sophomore Games. Magnuson continues to show some of the most upside on the mound in the class in a 6-foot-4, 186-pound frame, reaching 86 mph on the mound with the feel to land a low-70s breaking ball for a strike while Yates displays some of the most raw power in the class, swinging a heavy right-handed barrel with middle of the order potential in a physically advanced 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame.

On the Rise...
Max Jones RHP / 3B / Seckman, MO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 15 / POS: 4
Jones rises 3 spots up to No. 15 in this update as he continued to solidify his status as one of the top prospects in the class throughout the summer. The lean 6-foot-3, 195-pound righty pitched in the low-to-mid-80s with his fastball paired with a parachute changeup and low-70s breaking ball. He also swings a strong right-handed barrel at the plate making him a high-follow two-way prospect in the class. |
Shake Speckert OF / Francis Howell, MO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 24 / POS: 4
Speckert jumps into our rankings for the first time this fall after a strong performance at the Super Sophomore Games in August. A quick twitch athlete with plenty more to come as he adds strength, Speckert swings a quick, upside barrel from both sides of the plate with advanced feel for contact and a 89 mph arm from the outfield as well. |
Myland Bristow OF / 2B / Blue Springs South, MO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 29 / POS: 5
Bristow to see his stock rise as he continues to polish his game, moving up 3 spots into the top 30 on this board. With a quick, level swing that regularly produces exit velocities in the mid-to-upper 90s, a 87 mph arm from the outfield, and a 6.94 60; Bristow is a name to know in the 2027 class. |
Blake Hollrah C / 1B / Orchard Farm, MO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 35 / POS: 6
A standout at the Missouri State Games earlier this summer, Hollrah is a polished hitter with an advanced approach at the plate. He consistently produces loud contact back through the middle of the field with the feel to elevate balls pullside when needed. Look for the 6-foot-2, 185-pound sophomore to be a high-production bat at the plate as he continues to polish his skills. |
Colston Lyon OF / SS / St. Michael the Archangel, MO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 37 / POS: 9
The biggest mover in this update, Lyon jumps up 8 spots to No. 37 after strong performances across several looks this summer. With plenty of room still to add strength and size, Lyon has seen large jumps in nearly all of his metrics since the winter. What has impressed the most was his ability to handle high-end arms at the Super Sophomore Games where he racked up several hits throughout the weekend. |
Howie Donoho 3B / RHP / Chillicothe, MO / 2027Rankings StateRank: 48 / POS: 9
The 2023 Junior Future Gamer saw an uptick in his stuff on both sides of the ball this summer and is now slotted within the top 50 of our latest rankings. Donoho was up to 87 off the mound, consistently pitching in the mid-80s while spinning a curveball in the mid-60s and swinging a flat right-handed bat at the plate that has shown increasing power and feel for the barrel throughout our looks. Look for Donoho to shoot up our rankings as he continues to add size and strength. |
