KC Elite Scout Day: Quick Hits

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

On Tuesday, July 2nd, the Prep Baseball Missouri staff traveled to Capitol Federal Sports Complex in Liberty, MO to host the first annual KC Elite Scout Day. This event, which is in its first year, was open to all KC Elite 2025-to-2028 prospects with 20+ names in attendance.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. Earlier, our staff rolled out the day’s statistical standouts in leaderboard format within our ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts within these ‘Quick Hits’. Read below to learn about 5 names that popped to our staff from Tuesday's trip to Liberty.

QUICK HITS

+ OF Nicholas Dawson (Truman, 2025) came away as one of the biggest winners from Tuesday’s event, flashing tools in all aspects of the game. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound soon-to-be-senior showed off his athleticism to start the day, posting the fastest 60 mark of the day with a 6.87 time. At the plate, Dawson swung a quick, left-handed barrel that created natural lift to the pull-side, averaging 89 mph per batted ball. He barreled his best ball 368 feet at 96.5 mph - both top marks at the event. His arm played with accuracy from both the infield and outfield, reaching 82 mph and 79 mph respectively.

+ Another upside athlete to follow from this event is C/1B Gideon Lesslie (Dimond, AK; 2025). With plenty of room to add strength and size in a 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame, Lesslie was all over the barrel in his round of BP, spraying line drives to all fields, reaching a 93.9 mph peak exit velocity and sending his best ball 339 feet. He also fired a 81 mph bullet across the infield and posted 1.95-2.12 pop times from behind the plate.

+ INF/RHP Jackson Whitaker (Odessa, 2027) had a strong showing on both sides of the ball in Tuesday’s look. The 5-foot-10, 155-pound righty used a short, repeatable stroke that worked back through the middle of the field in BP, reaching 89.9 mph on his firmest ball. His arm showed on the infield where he posted the top mark of the day with a 82 mph bullet. Whitaker then hopped on the mound, where he ran his fastball up to 80 mph, commanding a curveball/changeup mix to pair.

+ INF/OF Christopher Meredith (Grain Valley, 2025) is a lean 6-foot-1, 175-pound athlete to keep an eye on from this look. Meredith showcased a compact, rotational stroke at the plate, driving the ball from gap-to-gap throughout his round of BP with plenty more power to come as he adds strength. He also showed arm strength defensively, posting an event leading 83 mph mark from the outfield as well as a 80 mph mark from the infield.
