April 1, 2024
RHP Jadyn Furgason (St. John Vianney, 2025; Texas A&M commit) is a top-10 arm in Missouri's 2025 class and a top-10 player overall in the state.
A member of Team Missouri at the 2023 PBR Future Games and physically built at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, Furgason runs his fastball up to 91.5 mph with ride and arm side run action. He also shows advanced feel to command the zone with both a tight hoizontal slider at 73-77 mph and a changeup at 78-80 mph.
Shortly after the 2023 Future Games, in early September, Furgason announced his commitment to Texas A&M.
Recently, we spoke with the future Aggie on his recruiting process, why he chose Texas A&M, his favorite baseball memory, and more.
OUR Q&A
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Furgason: Somewhere I can find the best development and success.
PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?
Furgason: Anywhere but Missouri.
PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?
Furgason: Schools started reaching out last offseason after [they saw my] post on twitter. Texas A&M saw me first at [a tournament over the summer], and then The Future Games.
PBR: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?
Furgason: The [Texas A&M] pitching program was definitely a place I could see myself succeed in. Also A&M showed more effort and want to have me on their program more than other colleges did.
PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
Furgason: Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky.
PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?
Furgason: Nazzan Zanetello (Christian Brothers College, 2023; Red Sox Draft Pick), he was just a big threat because he can easily put it out the park or just a small single. He could put the ball in play off me easier than others which made it tougher.
PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
Furgason: My first phone call with a coach was beginning of freshman year and that’s when I really stepped it up and focused. When I saw the potential I had.
PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
Furgason: Believe in yourself and don’t give up even when times get hard. Sounds like the basic, but I’ve had several thoughts of quitting because when I started struggling I wasn’t sure if I wanted to play baseball anymore. I kept working and didn’t give up because I always saw the potential in me.
PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?
Furgason: Vianney vs Jackson game.
PBR: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?
Furgason: Confident with the team this year, we have a lot of guys coming up from the JV squad who definitely will compete. We’re younger than some schools but I’d say we’re the best in the state.
