Uncommitted Spotlight: Jacob Frost

Our uncommitted senior spotlights continue and we’ll key in on Oakville 1B Jacob Frost this afternoon, the top 2021 first base prospect in the state, coming in at No. 30 overall.

A physical 6-foot-2, 210-pound athlete, Frost has impact potential harnessed within a strong left-handed stroke. He flashed that noticeably loud juice in his BP round at our MOKAN Fall Upperclass Games this October, recording a max exit speed of 98.30 mph and a max fly ball distance of 346 feet, per TrackMan.

Positional Profile: 1B/LHP. An impact left-handed bat that remains one of the top uncommitted prospects in Missouri's 2021 class.
 Body: 6-foot-2, 210-pounds. Strong, well-proportioned frame. Sturdy lower half.
 Defense: Fluid footwork around the bag, soft hands that secure the baseball, clean to release.
 Arm: LH. INF - 86 mph. Loose arm works from a high 3/4 slot.
 Hit: LHH. Open setup, narrow base, smooth load, short stride, aggressive hip drive to the baseball. Loose in the box with clear confidence in himself. Natural bat speed created by whippy hands, uphill bat path, consistent barrel feel, easy gap-to-gap power.
 Power: 91 mph exit velocity from the tee.
 Run: 7.32 runner in the 60. 

Delivery: Methodical drop and drive type delivery, weight sinks onto back leg prior to pushing downhill. Works in line to target, lands square, athletic finish.
 Arm Action: LH. Short arm action, high 3/4 slot. Quick arm.
 FB: T85, 84-85 mph. Showed both arm-side and glove-side action.
 CB: 71-73 mph. Tight 1/7 shape, breaks late. Feel to spin.
 CH: 77-79 mph. Fastball arm speed. Plays straight, flashed slight arm-side run at times.

Frost is a well built 6-foot-2 210-pound left-handed hitting first baseman and left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 4.25 home to first and has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and open stance, loads into back leg, aggressive towards the ball with in leg kick and in line stride, quick hands, hits with leverage to middle of the field and pull side.  On the infield, moves well to the ball with quick feet, clean exchange, high three quarters arm slot, loose arm, made all throws cleanly, 85 mph on the infield. On the mound, high three quarters arm slot, loose arm action, throws with regular effort, lands in line, simple and repeatable delivery, fastball showed two-seam run, 81-84 mph, breaking ball has 2-to-8 action, late at times, 71-75 mph, change up at 70-74 mph, late arm side action.

6-foot-1, 205-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. #71 ranked player in Missouri 2021 class. 4.85 home to first time. Open stance, rolling hand load, clean path to contact, spins out with lower half losing power, flashes hard contact to middle of field, 89 mph exit velocity. Easy actions in field, confident fielder, moves well around bag, above avg. receiver on throws across, 80 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; higher balance point, solid sequence to delivery, arm is clean with moderate effort. Fastball was 79-81 mph, consistent strikes, with later run and sink. Avg. shape and spin on larger breaking 1/7 curveball. Solid down action with fade on changeup thrown near fastball arm speed.
