Top Performers from Day 1 of the Top Prospect Games

Heavy rain on Monday night washed out games in Day 1 of the Class of 2015 and 2016 Top Prospect Games, but that didn’t stop the players from putting on some impressive performances indoors.

While the overall talent was impressive, players at each position stood out:

Catchers: CJ Schaeffer from Timberland recorded the top pop times and velocity from behind the plate. Pop times ranged from 1.84 to 1.99, with a top velocity of 79-mph. Mike Million from CBC had a top pop time of 1.91.

Infielders: Ian Nelson posted the top infield arm, at 82 mph across the diamond. Other top arms from the infield include Tanner Westrich from Moberly (81 mph), John Howard from Clayton (81 mph), Mike Million from CBC (80 mph), and Josh Estes from Vianney (80 mph).

Outfielders: Justin Dirden from Ft. Zumwalt North showed off the top outfield arm, with a top throw of 87 mph. Other top outfield arms include Michael Bruhin (85 mph), Ryan Perkins from Francis Howell (85 mph), CJ Schaeffer from Timberland (84 mph), Mitch Mobley from Kirkwood (84 mph), Mike Million from CBC (84 mph), Grant Geppert from Highland (IL) (84 mph), and Stephen Clark from Holt (82 mph).

Pitchers: Only a handful of pitchers threw, with the bulk of pitchers throwing in games at UMSL in scheduled games Wednesday. Clayton RHP John Howard topped at 85 mph with repeatable mechanics. LHP Stephen Clark from Holt sat 81-83 with his fastball that showed hard cut action. Blake Clynes from Eureka pounded the zone with an 81-82 mph fastball. Parkway North LHP Joey Reeves topped at 81 with quick arm speed and the ability to consistently throw all pitches for a strike.
