The Super 60 Pro Showcase on February 3rd did not disappoint. Top players from our eight state coverage area performed in front of 80 plus MLB scouts and put on quite a show. 16 of 26 arms were 90+, 7 were 88-89. There were 16 sub 7.0 60s and 13 exit velos of 90 and above.
OF Lex Kaplan (No. 4 and signed at University of Miami) was the highest ranked Missouri player in attendance. Kaplan, whose honors include playing in the Area Code games last summer, recorded some of the top times of the event. In the 60, Kaplan posted a 6.63, second fastest time of the event. In the outfield, Kaplan consistently had throws recorded at 89-mph, once again second best of a talented group.
“The event as a whole was a great event. I got to see a lot of talent from all over the Midwest and was able to compare my self to everyone there in front of a lot of scouts,” said Kaplan. “I have been working hard getting ready for the event, and just went out there and did what I do.”
Offensively, the left-handed hitting Kaplan showed ability to hit the ball to all fields, showing both finesse and power, with an exit velocity off the bat of 90-mph. His short, quick swing should translate well at the next level.
“I think yesterday showed some of the scouts who I am, not sure if they knew before. We will see how the season goes and works out, the draft and college,” said Kaplan.
Look for Kaplan to have a huge year similar to last year’s No. 1 player Tate Matheny.
