St. Louis Open: Catchers Analysis

On February 10, Prep Baseball Report - Missouri held the St. Louis Open at the Sports Barn in Wentzville, Missouri. Over 70 players attended in the 2021 to 2018 classes.

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos. Today will take a closer look at the catchers from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

The catching group at the St. Louis Open was one of the most impressive groups of any PBR-Missouri event this witner. Seven catchers has pop times of 2.06 or below with six players posting a 90 mph exit velo or better. One catcher ran a sub-seven 60.

Catchers

Matthew Arnold C / 1B / Marquette, MO / 2020

Arnold is a 5-foot-10 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.90 60 and has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, short stride, no wasted hand movement, hands control the barrel, creates quick bat whip, gap to gap line drives, hands work inside the ball. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.08 and 2.32-seconds, 72 mph positional, velocity, sets up wide in base, feet create momentum to throw, clean exchanges, short over the top arm action, mostly accurate throws, some with carry to the bag.

Cody Boatwright C / 2B / Francis Howell Central, MO / 2019

Boatwright is a 5-foot-9 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 7.82 60 and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, pre pitch rhythm in hands, smooth weight shift to back side, short stride, consistent solid contact to the middle of the field, loose hands, feel for barrel, has range in swing. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.09 and 2.28-seconds, 72 mph positional velocity, staggered set up, over the top release, short jab set on time with clean exchange, throws are mostly accurate, some with carry to the bag.

Quinton Dacus C / RHP / Jackson , MO / 2021

Dacus is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 7.33 60 and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, quiet hands, in line stride, swing produced middle to pull side contact during hitting evaluations. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.19 and 2.34-seconds, 69 mph positional velocity, staggered stance in base, high three quarters release, quick transfer, short jab step.

Brayden Eftink C / RHP / Notre Dame, MO / 2020

Eftink is a 6-foot 190-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.45 60 and has a 90 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, some hip rotation to load, level path through the zone, hard contact to the middle and pull side, flashing pull side power. Behind the plate, 76 mph positional velocity, 2.15 to 2.38-seconds, square set up in feet, over the top release, fluid glove to hand exchange on time with feet.

Corbin Harrison C / 3B / Eldon, MO / 2020

Harrison is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.70 60 and has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, reverse toe tap to stride, in line direction, quick hands, middle to pull side line drives. Behind the plate, 1.99-to 2.15-pop times, 80 mph positional velocity, quick catch and throw, square set up in feet, aggressive, short over the top release, somewhat accurate throws, long and lean frame with quick actions.

Hunter Hiett C / 2B / Cape Girardeau Central, MO / 2020

Hiett is a 5-foot-11 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.25 60 and has a 90 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, smooth load with controlled rhythm, no wasted movement in hands, quick bat speed, high finish in hands, stride is slightly closed gap to gap approach, occasional power to pull gap. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.08 and 2.21-seconds, 73 mph positional velocity, loose over the top release, quick feet on time with exchange, body is under control, throw flash carry, mostly accurate, strong build.

Trevor Kardell C / RHP / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2020

Kardell is a 6-foot-5 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 6.97 60 and has a 92 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with wide base, quick reverse to top, slightly closed stride, level path, swing produced hard contact to the middle of the field with occasional pull side power. Behind the plate, pop times between 1.96 to 2.10-seconds, staggered base, short over the top arm slot, aggressive out of set up, quick feet, quick catch and throw, throws are on line and accurate with carry, tall and lean build with athletic actions, sits low for size.

Stetson Marion C / 3B / Holt , MO / 2021

Marion is a 5-foot-8 150-pound right-hand hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 7.90 60 and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin stance, short stride, slightly closed, slight lift to swing path, swing produced mostly middle to pull side line drives. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.03 and 2.22-seconds, 76 mph positional velocity, short over the top, quick exchange, feet create momentum to throw, throws are mostly on line, some with carry.

Tommy Mohan C / 3B / Parkway West, MO / 2020

Mohan is a strong 6-foot 180-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.63 60 and has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, minimal load, no wasted movement, level path though extension, short stride with loose hands, gap to gap contact with feel for the barrel. Behind the plate, 2.06 to 2.32 pop times, 75 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, quick transfer, short jab step on time with exchange, soft hands, somewhat accurate throws.

Jeremy Schork C / 3B / Rockwood Summit, MO / 2020

Schork is a durable 5-foot-11 210-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.34 60 and has a 90 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall stance, slightly open, minimal stride, smooth load to back side, minimal hand load, stays under control, loose hands with gap to gap line drives. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.06 and 2.21-seconds, 78 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, short arm action, arm works, thin set up in base, most throws have carry, somewhat accurate.

Chad Silvey C / RHP / Farmington, MO / 2019

Silvey is a 6-foot-1 195-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 7.69 60 and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, short stride, body stays under control, hands control the bat, gap to gap line drives, solid consistent contact during hitting evaluations. Behind the plate, 2.22 to 2.24-pop times, 67 mph positional velocity, square set up in feet, over the top release, short arm circle, feet and hands work together, short jab step, clean exchange, soft hands, mostly accurate throws.

John Stallcup C / RHP / Webster Groves, MO / 2019

Stallcup is a 6-foot 200-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 7.95 60 and has a 91 mph exit velocity. At the plate, wide and athletic set up, minimal stride, no wasted movements, quick hands generate bat speed, level path though extension, consistent gap to gap line drives drives during hitting evals, hands work inside the ball to contact. Behind the plate, pop times 1.94 to 2.14 pop times, 72 mph positional velocity, quick catch and throw, quick jab step creates momentum to throw, over the top release, soft hands, short arm circle, accurate throws to get bag, most with carry to the bag.

Ulm is a durable 5-foot-9 205-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 7.88 60 and has a 91 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and thin set up, minimal load and hand movement, short line stride, level path through the zone, consistent gap to gap line drives. Behind the plate, pop times between 1.94 and 2.03-seconds, 73 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, quick catch and throw, short first step with momentum, feet and hands works on time together, throws flash carry and accuracy.
