STL Bandit Scout Day: Catchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report- Missouri held the St. Louis Bandits Scout Day on June 5 at Lindenwood University in St. Louis, Missouri. Over seventy players from the 2022 to 2019 classes attended.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a 
ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on ScoutPlus.

Here is a closer look at the catchers from the event, listed in alphabetical order.

Catchers

Bryce Angert C / OF / Troy Buchanan, MO / 2022

Angert is a 5-8, 145-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. At the event he ran a 7.67 60 and posted a 72mph exit velocity. At the plate, Angert showed an athletic stance, loose hands, simple leg kick, keeps hands inside to contact, balanced finish, line-drive approach. Behind the plate, narrow stance, clean transfers, over-the-top release, posted a positional velocity of 55mph, pop times between 2.89-3.17 seconds.

Brandon Canada C / RHP / Pattionville , MO / 2020

Canada is a 6-foot, 155-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. At the event he ran a 8.03 60 and posted an exit velocity of 78mph. During batting practice, Canada showed a balanced set up, small leg kick, quick hands, strong barrel awareness, and flat bat path through hitting zone. Behind the plate, Canada presented strong hands, quick transfers, over the top release and accurate throws, with pop times between 2.01-2.12 seconds and a positional velocity of 71mph.

Jakob Gittemeier C / 2B / Wentzville Holt, MO / 2020

Gittemeier is a 5-9, 200-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. At the event he ran 8.50 60 and posted an exit velocity of 79mph. During batting practice, quiet load with tempo, loose hands, short compact swing, good extension after contact. Behind the plate, narrow, athletic base, in-line footwork, solid transfers, strong hands and ability to frame pitches, squared-up body position in blocks, posted pop times between 2.09-2.47 seconds, positional velocity of 75mph.

Cole Gramling C / SS / St. Charles West, MO / 2021

Gramling is a 5-10, 145-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the event he ran a 7.89 60 and posted an exit velocity of 77mph. During hitting evaluations, Gramling has balanced stance, simple leg kick load, level bat path, showed primarily pull contact during round. Behind the plate, athletic stance with solid base, clean transfers, over-the-top release, positional velo of 69mph, pop times between 2.10-3.27 seconds.

Cooper Kiel C / SS / Bowling Green , MO / 2022

Kiel is a 5-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2022 class. At the event he ran a 7.35 60 and posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. During batting practice, Kiel showed an athletic set up, loads the back-side well, compact swing and balanced finish. Behind the plate, displays strong blocking technique, quick hands and efficient transfers, working well low-to high, accurate throws with pop times between 1.97-2.29 seconds and positional velocity of 74mph.

Erik Kiewiet C / 3B / Francis Howell, MO / 2020

Kiewiet is a 6-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. He has run a 7.77 60 in prior events and posted an exit velocity of 85mph at the event. During hitting evaluations, minimal load, compact to contact, line-drive approach, showed power to pull-side gap, solid extension after contact, balanced finish with high hands. Behind the plate, narrow stance, quick transfers and developing footwork, over-the-top release, mostly accurate throws, posted pop times between 2.00-2.30 seconds, positional velocity of 74mph.
