SS Brock Hammit (right) caught the eye of PBR evaluators and colleges coaches with impresive performance at the Prospect ID Showcase in February in Kansas City and the All State Invitational Showcase in Columbia in June.

The 6-foot-4 Hammit is just starting to grow into his lanky frame and looks ot be one of the leaders of what should be a competitive Nixa HS team in 2013.

Just starting the recruiting process, we caught with with Hammit to get some of his thoughts.

PBR: Talk a little about the Nixa team from last season, and what you expect going into your senior season.

Hammit: Last season we didn’t play as well as we would have liked to, but got hot at the right time to win a district title. Going into my senior year we return a strong group of seniors with a goal of making the Final Four.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player?

Hammit: I would have to say my baseball I.Q. Knowing what do all the time to make a play that changes the momentum of the game.

PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?

Hammit: I would say my strength. I was 5-foot-4 as a freshman. I didn’t start growing until the middle of my sophomore year. Now I am 6-foot-2, so continuing to get stronger to run a bit faster, hit it further, throw the ball harder will greatly benefit my game.

PBR: What have are your expectations for the recruiting process?

Hammit: Because it’s just starting to happen I really don’t know fully what to expect but hopefully I’ll get to know college coaches around the Midwest area.

PBR: What type of program would you like to play at? What is most important to you: Caliber of program, coaching staff, academics, etc…?

Hammit: The biggest thing for me is going to a school where I will be constantly challenged to become better everyday. It’s important for me to choose a college where I am a good fit with both their program and coaching staff and get a good education too.

PBR: What schools are you most interested in right now, and why?

Hammit: Right now my main interests are Division 1 schools and junior colleges. But I am open to any opportunities that are a good fit for me.

PBR: What were your personal goals for the 2012 season and were they met? Goals for the 2013 season?

Hammit: I wanted to hit over .350 for school ball this season. I didn’t quite reach it so that will be my goal again for the upcoming season.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer?

Hammit: Midwest Nationals.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter that you have faced?

Hammit: I faced Breckin Williams from Webb City. He was pretty tough.

PBR: What is your fondest memory or highlight from your 2012 baseball season (High School or Summer)?

Hammit: Definitely winning the district championship this year.

PBR: What is your most memorable moment in baseball so far in your life?

Hammit: I’m a huge Nebraska sports fan, so I would say getting to play on their field last year.

PBR: What are your thoughts on the implementation of BBCOR bats from both a hitting and pitching perspective?

Hammit: From a hitting prospective it’s a little of a disadvantage but not as huge as some people make it out to be.
