Preseason All-State East: Middle Infielders

On Monday, February 15, Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the Preseason All-State East Showcase at All-Star Performance in St. Louis, Mo. 

Nearly 60 players from 2017 class participated with another 10-plus from the 2018 and 2019 class.  Profiles have been updated with profile picture, stats and video.  In days to come, we will break down each position, taking a look at the middle infielders performances today. Middle Infielders are listed alphabetically.

Middle Infielders

Jordan Ball, SS, Troy Buchanon, 2017
Ball is a 5-foot-10 155-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.39 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 76 mph. At the plate, starts in a closed stance, short stride, level path through hitting zone, pull side line drives, smooth rhythm. On the infield, has a 68 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, long arm circle, fluid footwork with clean exchange, accurate throw.

Cameron Beck, SS, Festus, 2017
Beck is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.71 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 86 mph. At the plate, starts in open stance, stride is slightly closed, level path, mostly line drives to pull side of the field, free and loose hands, power potential.  On the infield, 82 mph positional velo, over the top release with accurate throws, quick exchange, hands work with feet. 

Cody Boatwright, 2B, Francis Howell Central, 2017
Boatwright is a 5-foot-6 130-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.38 home to first and has a 72 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts slightly open on front foot, reverse toe tap, in-line stride, smooth hand load, line drives to middle of field, balanced finish.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velo,

James Bradley Jr., 2B, Lafayette, 2017
Bradyley is a 5-foot-9 145-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 4.44 home-to-first and has a 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, simple and repeatable swing, minimal load, level path through hitting zone, middle approach, body under control.  On the infield, 67 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, arm works, quick exchange and throw, mostly accurate throws.

Tyler Cason, 2B, Cuba, 2017
Cason is a 5-foot-9 170-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.72 home-to-first and has a 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, gap-to-gap approach, open stance, in line stride, body under control.  On the infield, over the top release, long arm circle, fluid exchange and footwork.

Jake Currier, SS, Francis Howell Central, 2017
Currier is a 5-foot-9 125-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.21 home to first and has an exit velo of 87 mph. At the plate, open set up, leg kick, most pull with some pop.  On the infield, high three quarters release, quick footwork, clean glove to hand transfer, quick release, mostly accurate throws, 67 mph positional velo.

Dominic Cusumano, SS, Westminster Christian, 2017
Cusumano is a 5-foot-10 162-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.19 home-to-first and has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, short in-line stride, gap-to-gap approach, drives ball to pull gap, level path to extension.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, over the top release, athletic footwork, quick catch and throw, soft hands, mostly accurate throws. 

Donovan Ditto, SS, SLUH, 2017
Ditto is a 5-foot-9 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.08 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 79 mph. At the plate, repeatable swing, minimal load, short stride, smooth rhythm, bat path works to top of ball, mostly middle to pull line drives.  On the infield, over the top release, quick footwork, momentum through the catch, clean hand to glove exchange, accurate throws with carry, 79 mph positional velo.

Tyler Eckman, 2B, Fort Zumwalt West, 2017
Eckman is a 5-foot-9 172-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 4.37 home to first and has an exit velo of 87 mph. At the plate, athletic stance, repeatable and simple, short stride, level though zone, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, 68 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick transfer, soft hands, fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws.
 
William Hantack, SS, Francis Howell Central, 2017
Hantack is a 6-foot-2 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.62 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 86 mph. At the plate, drove the ball to both gaps, athletic set up, accelerated rhythm, short stride, quick hands.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick feet fielding ball in athletic positon, clean transfer with momentum through the catch, accurate throws. Lean build with high projection.

Da’Len Harrell, 2B, McCluer, 2017
Harrell is a 5-foot-10 192-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.58 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 78 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, hands walk away from stride to load, mostly pull side line drives, balanced finish.  On the infield, 68 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, fluid footwork and exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Alexander Hoff, SS, St. Dominic, 2017
Hoff is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He has an exit velo of 84 mph and ran a 4.08 home-to-first. At the plate, athletic set up, repeatable swing mechanics, short and quick stride, level path, quick bat speed, gap-to-gap approach. On the infield, 88 mph positional velo, one of the top of the event, over the top release, athletic action, quick feet with quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws with carry.

Tucker Maupin, 2B, Francis Howell Central, 2018
Maupin is a 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  Her ran a 4.83 home to first and has an exit velo of 75 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, leg kick, mostly pull line drives during batting practice.  On the infield, over the top release, 61 mph positional velo, mostly accurate throws.

Lawson McAteer, SS, CBC, 2017
McAteer is a 6-foot-1 220-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.15 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 79 mph.  At the plate, solid consistent contact gap-to-gap, power to pull side, thin and open stance, controlled leg kick with rhythm, quick bat speed, good round of batting practice.  On the infield, 82 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick feet with momentum through catch, clean transfer, carry on throws, mostly accurate.

Drew Mize, SS, Fort Zumwalt West, 2019
Mize is a 5-foot-9 135-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.91 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 76. At the plate, repeats swing, no wasted movement, short stride, level path through zone.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, arm works, athletic footwork, clean transfer with soft hands. Projectable player in 2019 class.

Dylan Mooney, 2B, Oakville, 2018
Mooney is a 5-foot-9 160-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.27 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 82 mph. At the plate, athletic set up, smooth rhythm with hands walking away from stride, level bat path, gap-to-gap approach. On the infield, 73 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws.

Ryan Panzitta, SS, Lafayette, 2017
Panzitta is a 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.39 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 88 mph. At the plate, slightly open stance, in-line stride, no wasted movement in load, loose hands, mostly line drives to middle of the field during batting practice.  On the infield, 81 mph positional velo, field ball in athletic position with momentum moving though the catch, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, projectable frame.

Jaxon Passino, SS, Rockwood Summit, 2017
Passino is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.09 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 92 mph. At the plate, attacks ball, linear weight shift into contact, level path with pull power, gap-to-gap approach, solid consistent contact, loose hands.  On the infield, 87 mph positional velo, arm works, athletic actions, momentum through the catch, hands and feet in sync, over the top release but arm works from different angles, throws have carry, accurate.

Douglas Payne, 2B, Cuba, 2017
Payne is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.25 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 85 mph. At the plate, starts with open stance, short in-line stride, loose hand with a level path through contact, no wasted movement, solid consistent contact gap-to-gap. On the infield, 84 mph positional velo, arm works, over the top lease, fluid catch and throw, accurate throws.

Drew Reed, SS, Union, 2017
Reed is a 5-foot-10 190-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.25 home to first and has an exit velo of 88 mph. At the plate, athletic stance, smooth load, hands walk away from stride, level path to extension, solid consistent contact, gap-to-gap, pull power. On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, fields ball in athletic position, clean transfer with quick release, mostly accurate throws.

Ryan Rogers, 2B, Francis Howell Central, 2019
Rogers is a 5-foot-10 135-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.35 home-to-first. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load, short stride, repeatable swing, level bat path, mostly middle of the field line drives. On the infield, 52 mph positional velo, over the top release with mostly accurate throws.

Jordan Smith, SS, Rock Bridge, 2017
Smith is a 6-foot 165-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran 4.01 home to first and has an exit velo of 81 mph. At the plate, thin stance, balanced, short stride, loose and free hands, mostly pull to middle of the field line drives.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velo, over the top release, accurate throws, athletic footwork, hands and feet in sync, fields ball in athletic position, clean catch and throw.

Devin Tashe, SS, Lutheran St. Charles, 2017
Tashe is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.45 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 82 mph. At the plate, open and wide stance, short stride, level bat path through contact, swing produces pull gap line drives.  On the infield, high three quarters release, 77 mph positional velo, momentum through the catch, fluid footwork with clean hand-to-glove transfer, accurate throws.

Forrest Wilson, 2B, Hickman, 2017
Wilson is a 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 4.46 home to first and has an exit velo of 90 mph, one of top RHH exit velo of the event.  At the plate, athletic set up, smooth load in back leg, short stride, hands work inside of ball, gap-to-gap approach, quick bat speed. On the infield, 72 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork, accurate throws.
