Player Spotlight: RHP Blakeney Kearbey (Greenville, 2016)

Blakeney Kearbey is a 6-foot-5, 190-pound right handed pitcher, with a fastball that touched 88 mph at the Class of 2016 games on June 9.  Kearby just finished up his junior season, his first at Greenville, and has begun his summer season.  His profile is currently being updated with comments and video, for now, here is a look inside the recruiting process for Kearbey.

PBR: What schools have expressed an interest in you? Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future.

Kearbey: Fontonne and Williams Baptist have shown interest, but I have not visited anywhere. Playing two seasons of baseball and basketball have made it difficult to get away. 

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, ect.)

Kearbey: I am interested in a school that takes pride in there academics and athletic programs. I want and need to get to the next level. I also need the school to believe in me and what I can do on and off of the field. I am still not sure future wise-exactly what I want to major in. I know I am not done yet with baseball.  I don't have an unrealistic expectations, I just really feel I can get to the next level with the right coaches and teammates.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do? Name some players that played a key role at Greenville.

Kearbey: Greenville was the Ozark Foothills Conference Champs, and District Champs.  We lost first round to Valle Catholic and finished with a 22-2 record in the spring, and in the fall we went 17-5.  I pitched 48 innings and finished with an 8-1 record and a 1.10 ERA with 74 strikeouts.  I hit .427 with six doubles, four home runs, ten stole bases and 25 RBI.  I can contribute to my success and team success to my catcher Trynt Tompkins, my co-pitching mate, Trey McDaniel, and my coach Jeff Null.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Kearbey: My goals for senior year are to win Ozark Foothills Conference, win the district championship and state, pitch no hitters, hit .500 and win on the mound.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Kearbey: My summer league team is Wayne County Lumberjacks, and I play for  my high school team during the fall.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Kearbey: I play basketball and our high school team had one of the best seasons they have ever had.
