Player Spotlight: OF Jacob Pfender (Staley, 2015)

Shon Plack
Missouri Scouting Director

Jacob Pfender is a solid 6-foot-2, 210-pound outfielder.  Pfender showed aggressive actions getting to the ball and showed good arm strength with an 82 MPH positional velo with very accurate throws.  He throws from a high ¾ arm slot and has a quick hand-to-glove exchange.  Offensively, he has a gap-to-gap approach with a level swing path. He has a simple load and gets good bat speed to extension.  Pfender has an exit velo of 82 MPH and runs a 4.33 home-to-first.

Pfender will anchor down the explosive Staley offensive in 2015, missing the Missouri Class 5 Final Four by just one game a season ago.  He earned First Team All-Conference and Academic All-State Awards as a junior.  He carries a 4.0 GPA and will graduate in the top ten percent of his class.

Below is a look inside the recruiting process of Jacob Pfender.

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Pfender: Offer from Missouri Western, informal offer from Truman State, interest from Brown, Lindenwood and Shenandoah University

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?

Pfender: I visited Missouri Western in November

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

I am looking for a school with high academics

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Pfender: Staley made it to the quarter finals. I was the starting center fielder, batting in the 4 hole with .380 average, with 1st team all conference and academic all state honors.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season? Name some players that will play a key role for Staley in 2015.

Pfender: As a team I’d like to push further into the playoffs and personally I’d like to hit for a higher average than last year and throw a few more runners out. Staley has the players to finish strong and win state. Great senior leadership in Levi McLaughlin (2nd) and Conrad McMahon (3rd and OF)
