Class 5

Rock Bridge 2, Blue Springs South 0
Logan Twehous pitched the Rock Bridge Bruins into the state championship with a complete-game shut-out over Blue Springs South.  Twehous fanned seven hitters, walked two and allowed two hits in seven innings.  Blue Springs South put together their biggest threat to score in the first inning, when Braden Younkin reached on an error and Reece Eddins followed with a one out single to give the Jaguars runners at second and third with one out.  Twehous got the next two batters, Cale Benson and Patrick Lemberger, to strike out and end the inning.  Rock Bridge broke the scoreless tie in the fourth when Matt Widhalm reached on an error to lead off the inning.  After a sacrifice bunt, Cole Evans managed an infield hit give the Bruins a first and third situation with one out.  Micheal Buxton executed a safety squeeze to perfection, allowing Widhalm to score and give the Bruins a 1-0 lead.  Connor Brumfield led off the Bruin fourth with a double off the right field wall.  Avery Jennings followed with a sacrifice bunt and Kyle Teter scored Brumfield with an infield hit to make it a 2-0 advantage for Rock Bridge.  Twehous shut down the Jaguar offense from there to earn the win.  Reece Eddins went the distance for Blue Springs South allowing one earned run on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Connor Brumfield went 3-for-4 with a run and Kyle Teter finished with a pair of hits to lead Rock Bridge.

Francis Howell 3, #5 Vianney 1
Nic Perkins hit a towering two-out solo home run in the top of the first inning to give Howell a 1-0 lead.  The Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the second on a double down the left field line by Ryan Grantham that scored courtesy runner Austin Johnson from first base.  Ryan Perkins gave Howell a 3-0 lead with an RBI single that scored Justin Perkins in the third inning.  Tanner Kulpa allowed no runs on one hit through four innings, but Chris Cornelius hit a one-out double, and advance to third on an error, that scored Matt Bokamper and cut the lead to 3-1. The next batter, Nick Allgeyer walked an stole second to give the Griffons second and third with one out.  Kulpa worked out of the jam, striking out Matt Jones and getting Neil Fischer to pop up.  Austin Forney come in relief of Kulpa in the sixth and shut the door on Vianney.  Forney worked 1.2 innings without allowing a hit put Howell into the state championship game against Rock Bridge and preserve the 3-1 win.  Jacob Hemphill tossed the complete game for Vianney allowing two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks.  Chris Cornelius finished with a 2-for-4 performance for the Griffons.

The Class 5 State Championship is a rematch of an April 26 game between Howell and Rock Bridge.  Howell on the contest 4-1 with Austin Forney getting the complete game win allowing three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.  Ryan Perkins was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI to lead Howell.  Adam Lafferty went the distance for Rock Bridge, working six innings, surrendering two earned runs on six hits.  He struck out two and walked one.  Kyle Teter tripled and scored for Rock Bridge. 

Class 3

#1 Springfield Catholic 6, Fatima 4
Springfield Catholic grabbed the early lead and held on for the victory. Fatima outhit Springfield Catholic nine to five. Matthew Tipton started for the Fighting Irish. He went 6 1/3 innings racking up eight strikeouts. Tyler Ast was asked to come on for the save. Fatima’s starter Reid Kesel was taken off of the mound in the second inning. Alex Dickneite pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief, allowing only one hit while striking out six. Will Robertson went 3-for-4 for Fatima. Brayton Ballenger went 1-for-1 with a walk, RBI, and a pair of runs scored. With the win, Springfield Catholic advances to the state championship against Christian. 

#1 Springfield Catholic 8, Christian 3
Just like they did in the semifinal game, Springfield Catholic jumped out to an early lead. Tyler Ast tossed a complete game for Springfield Catholic allowing no earned runs. He also went 2-for-5 at the plate with a triple and three RBI. Eric Atwell went 4-for-5 with a double, three RBI, and a run scored. Ryan Haller went 2-for-4 with a walk, one RBI, and a pair of runs scored. Andrew May was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI for Christian.

Class 2

#1 Valle Catholic 13, #4 Hartville 2
The Valle Catholic Warriors are State Champions again. Andrew Basler tossed a complete game allowing only one earned run on five hits. He also went 3-for-5 at the plate with a walk and two RBI. Daniel Bergtholdt went 4-for-5 with one RBI. Valle Catholic finishes their 2014 season at 31-3.
