Mac N Seitz Black Sox Scout Day: Middle Infielder Analysis

Prep Baseball Report - Missouri/Kansas held the Mac N Seitz Black Sox Scout Day on Saturday, February 24 in Kansas City, Missouri.  Over seventy players in the 2021 to 2018 classes participated. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard. Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the middle infielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

This group of middle infielders included eight players in the 2019 class, seven players in the 2020 class, and four players in the 2021 class.  Three players hand an 86 or better exit velocity, with over 90 mph.  Four players were 80 mph or better across the infield.  Here is a look at the middle infielders from the Mac N Seitz Scout Day.

Middle Infielders

Aidan Baltz SS / RHP / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2020

Baltz is a slender 5-foot-8 145-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.29 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, controlled weight shift to back side, reverse toe tap, quick and aggressive hands, swing produced middle to pull side line drives during hitting evals. On the infield, over the top arm slot, long arm circle, loose arm action, gains ground after the catch, fluid to the ball with feet, clean transfer, 83 mph positional velocity, accurate throws with carry.

Andrew Brubeck C / SS / Mill Valley, KS / 2020

Brubeck is a 5-foot-8 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.75 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, smooth load with minimal hand movement, in line stride, loose hands and level path through extension, swing produced mostly gap to gap line drives during hitting evals, On the infield, 73 mph positional velocity, fields the ball out front in athletic position, gathers feet and gains momentum to throw after the catch, soft hands with smooth exchange, high three quarters arm slot, smooth actions.

Kody Burch SS / 3B / Belton, MO / 2019

Burch is an athletically built 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.27 home to first and has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, some pre-pitch rhythm in hands and lower half, leg kick to in line stride, hands create bat speed and bat whip, middle to pull side line drives.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, quick to the back, quick catch and throw, hands and feet work together, mostly accurate throws.

Chase Burgess SS / 2B / Blue Valley West, KS / 2019

Burgess is a 5-foot-8 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.19 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, small and smooth weight shift to the back side, simple and repeatable with no wasted movements, quick and loose hands through the hitting zone, slight natural lift at the end of the swing, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, athletic actions, quick over the top arm slot, no wasted time in transfer with soft hands, aggressive to the ball, 84 mph positional velo, accurate throws with carry.

Ty Campbell C / 2B / Blue Springs South, MO / 2021

Campbell is an athletically built 6-foot 160-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 4.72 home to first and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance with smooth load, accelerated and loose hands, showed some feel for the barrel and range in swing, consistent middle to pull side line drives, repeats. On the infield, 75 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, gathers feet and gains ground to 1B to throw with momentum, clean catch and throw, smooth footwork to the ball.

Grant Chandler SS / 2B / Olathe West, KS / 2019

Chandler is a tall and lean 6-foot 145-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.27 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with an open stance, high leg kick, quiet hands, in line stride, short path to contact, stays on ball after contact, consistent middle of the field contact.  On the infield, 84 mph positional velocity, short over the top arm slot, creates momentum with feet after the catch, smooth and under control the the ball, overall athletic actions with build still developing and capable of adding strength.

Tanner Curry SS / RHP / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2021

Curry is a 5-foot-10 135-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.58 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in an open and tall stance, some hand load with leg lift, short in line stride, accelerated hands to contact, swing produced gap to gap line drive during hitting evals.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, smooth actions with a quick catch and throw,70 mph positional velocity, mostly accurate throws.

Colby Donahoe C / SS / Lees Summit West, MO / 2020

Donahoe is a 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.96 home to first and has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, minimal load, pre-pitch rhythm in hands, hands control the bat, level path with mostly middle contact during hitting evals. On the infield, 77 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, clean transfers with fluid footwork to the ball, mostly accurate throws flashing carry.

Thomas Hochard lll SS / RHP / Shawnee Mission Northwest, KS / 2020

Hochard is a 6-foot 185-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.47 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, high leg lift with some hand load, loose and level path with extension, short stride, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velocity, quick catch and throw, fields ball in athletic position ready to throw, smooth and under control to the ball with clean transfer, high three quarters arm slot with quick release, mostly accurate throws.

Brandon Klebenstone SS / RHP / Liberty North, MO / 2019

Klebenstone is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.82 home to first and has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, slight weight shift to back side, no wasted movements in hands, hands control the barrel, mostly middle to pull side line drives during hitting evals.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velocity, short over the top release, works behind and through the ball with fluid footwork, gains ground after the catch with two shuffles, clean exchanges, mostly accurate throws.

Peyton Leeper SS / 3B / South Callaway , MO / 2019

Leeper strong and athletic is a 5-foot-11 180-pound switch hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 419 home to first and has a 93 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, quick weight shift to back side, similar preparation from both sides with no wasted movement, simple and repeatable, quick hands with level path through extension, stays on ball after contact, mostly gap to gap line drives from both side, flashing power from right side, has feel for the barrel, solid switch hitter.  On the infield, 83 mph positional velocity, quick twitch actions, athletic feet to the ball, soft hands fielding the ball out front, quick exchange, two shuffles to gain momentum, short over the top arm slot, solid defender.  

Teague Robertson SS / RHP / Hickman , MO / 2020

Robertson is a lean and projectable 6-foot-1 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.50 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth rhythm with weight shift to back side, quiet hands, reverse toe tap, level path with loose hands, middle to pull side contact.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velocity, works behind the ball with smooth footwork, through the catch gaining momentum, high three quarters arms lot, arm works, transfer and footwork in sync, smooth actions with accurate throws, some with carry

Dylan Scott SS / 2B / Gardner Edgerton, KS / 2021

Scott is a 5-foot-9 130-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.70 home to first and has a 73 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts thin and tall, calm leg lift with short in line stride, hands control the bat, natural lift to bat plane, swing produced mostly middle of the field contact.  On the infield, 68 mph positional velocity, soft hands, short over the top arm slot, arm works with loose action, active and smooth footwork on time with transfer, throws are mostly accurate, solid actions.

Jack Stucky SS / 2B / Rockhurst , MO / 2020

Stuckey is a lean and long 6-foot-1 153-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.76 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth and controlled shift into back side to load, slightly closed stride, feel for the ball with level path, gap to gap line drives.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velocity, over the top release, gathers feet with two shuffles after the catch, creates momentum to throw, clean exchange, soft hands, smooth footwork, frame and actions add to projection with increases down the road.

Brett Stewart RHP / SS / Grain Valley, MO / 2021

Stewart is a lean 6-foot 140-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 4.53 home to first and has a 69 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, minimal hand load, slides front foot back to load, in line stride, loose hands, gap to gap contact during hitting evals.  On the infield, 68 mph positional velocity, three quarters arm slot, aggressive to the ball with feet, quick transfer and throw fielding the ball out front in position ready to throw, mostly accurate throws, lean frame still adding strength to already clean actions.

Will Thompson SS / RHP / St Thomas Aquinas, KS / 2020

Thompson is a 5-foot-10 155-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.58 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a athletic and balanced set up, calm leg lift with mostly quiet hands, in line stride, natural lift at the end of swing path, loose and quick bat speed, mostly pull to middle of the field contact.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arms lot, smooth and clean glove to hand transfer, quick shuffle with feet and throw with some momentum, stays under control, mostly accurate throws, some with carry.

Tanner Twillman RHP / 2B / Olathe East, KS / 2019

Twillman is a 5-foot-11 155-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.33 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, open stance, no wasted movement in hands, in line stride, stays in lower half, level path with high finish, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, arm has loose action, controlled and smooth to the ball, fields the ball with soft hands, long arm circle, shuffles feet and throws, mostly accurate throws, flashing carry, 74 mph positional velocity.

Caleb Tywater 2B / SS / Kansas City Christian , KS / 2019

Tywater is a slender 5-foot-11 155-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class. He ran a 4.33 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced stance, reverse toe tap, quick hands, level path through extension, mostly middle of the cage contact.  On the infield, 77 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, feet create momentum to throw after the catch, works behind the ball, clean glove to hand transfer, throws are mostly accurate,

Jackson Woolery 2B / SS / Olathe North, KS / 2019

Woolery is a 5-foot-6 145-pound switch hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.96 home to first and has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, minimal load, pre-pitch rhythm in hands, lands slightly closed to stride, accelerated and aggressive hands speed, creates bat whip, level plane through the zone, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, 71 mph positional velocity, short over the top arm slot, quick to the ball, one shuffle after the throw to gather feet and momentum, soft hands with clean transfer, throws are mostly accurate with carry.
