Kansas Underclass Games: Outfielder's Analysis

Prep Baseball Report-Kansas held the Underclass Prospect Games on May 31 at Kansas State University.  Nearly 100 players participated in the 2018 and 2019 class. 

Player profiles have been updated with video, times, velos and profile pictures.  Today we will take a look at the outfielders performances from the event.  Although some outfielders may have played other positions, this is just a break down of the performances in the outfield.  In the days to come we will break down infielders and pitchers.

OUTFIELDERS

Kyle Abrahamson, Lawrence Free State, 2018
Abrahamson is a 5-foot-9 180-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.34 60 and got down the line in 4.68-seconds.  He has an 88 mph exit velo, one of the top among LHH. At the plate, takes and aggressive swing, loose hands, quick bat speed, some power to pull side, gap-to-gap approach, open stance, short stride, repeats, singled to left in game action.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, quick to the ball, works behind and plays through the catch, mostly accurate throws, 79 mph positional velo.

Pryce Anderson, Labette County, 2018
Anderson is a 6-foot 173-pound switch hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.39 60 and a 4.20 home to first, one of the top among LHH.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic set up, smooth rhythm, some hand load, middle to pull line drives during batting practice, singled through right side in game action.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velo, over the top arm slot, crow hop, fluid footwork, clean transfer,

Brayden Becker, Prairie Hills, 2018
Becker is a 5-foot-8 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.05 60 and a 4.38 home-to-first, one of the top among RHH.  He has an exit velo of 82 mph. At the plate, starts in a slightly open stance, pull approach, short stride, body stays under control, balanced finish, went 1-for-3 in game action with a single.  In the outfield, 79 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, fluid glove to hand exchange, quick release.

Will Boyd, Silver Lake, 2018
Boyd is a 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.31 60 and a 4.63 home-to-first.  He has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, swing produced consistent line drives up the middle during batting practice, athletic set up, smooth load into back side, small and controlled leg lift, level path through the hitting zone. In the outfield, high three quarters release, catches ball in throwing position, momentum through the catch, fluid exchange, 75 mph positional velo.

Nicholas Chomyak, Shawnee Mission Northwest, 2018
Chomyak is a 5-foot-9 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.44 60 and a 4.89 home-to-first.  He has an 86 mph exit velo. At the plate, gap-to-gap approach, open stance, controlled leg kick, level path though hitting zone, body stays under control, singled though the hole at short in game action.  In the outfield, 81 mph positional velo, over the top release, take route behind the ball, loose arm action, fluid exchange and throw, somewhat accurate throws.

Zac Cox, Manhattan, 2019
Cox is a 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.06 60 and got down the line in 4.75-seconds.  He has a 91 mph exit velo, one of the top RHH velos. At the plate, slightly open stance, aggressive hands, leg kick to load, line drive to whole field during batting practice, loose hands with quick bat speed, tripled to center in game action.  In the outfield, over the top release, aggressive to the ball, quick feet, crow hop, momentum through the catch, clean glove to hand exchange, 84 mph positional velo, one of the top among outfielders, throws have carry, mostly accurate.

Roderick Criss, Staley (MO), 2018
Criss is a 6-foot-2 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 6.80 60, one of the top for the event, and a 4.51 home-to-first.  He has an 88 mph exit velo, one of the top RHH velos.  At the plate, consistently barreled up balls during batting practice, gap-to-gap approach, open stance, smooth load, short path to contact, level swing path, quick bat speed, singled though the hole at short in game action.  In the outfield, athletic actions, high three quarters release, athletic footwork, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws with carry, 86 mph positional velo, among the top outfield velos.

Ben Driver, Salina Central, 2019
Driver is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  Driver ran a 7.14 60 and a 4.44 home to first.  He has a 74 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, no wasted movement in load, middle approach, singled to left in game action.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, 78 mph positional velo, good route to ball, plays behind the catch, quick catch and release, somewhat accurate throws.

Josh Flack, Shawnee Mission Northwest, 2018
Flack is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.47 60 and got down the line in 4.75-seconds.  He has an 70 mph exit velo. At the plate, oppo approach, smooth load, toe tap, fast bat speed, works inside of ball, singled up the middle in game action.  In the outfield, 82 mph positional velo, one of the top among outfielders, high three quarters arm slot, fluid footwork, clean exchange and throw, momentum through the catch, somewhat accurate throws.

Tyler Halstead, Riley County, 2018
Halstead is a 6-foot 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder from Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 6.46 60, fastest time for the event, and has a 4.15 home-to-first time, one of the best LHH times.  He posted an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, line drives to the middle of the field during batting practice, slightly open stance, in line stride, quick hands, level though the zone.  In the outfield, 78 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick twitch movement, athletic footwork, quick catch and throw, clean exchange, mostly accurete throws. 

Tyler Henry, Gardner-Edgerton, 2018
Henry is a 5-foot-9 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.13 60 and has a home-to-first time of 4.34, one of the top among RHH.  He has an 89 mph exit velo, one of the top RHH velos. At the plate, tall set-up, short stride, tall stance, smooth rhythm, upper body dominate, loose hands, line drives to the middle of the field during batting practice, had a pair of singles in game action.  In the outfield, 82 mph positional velo, one of the top among outfielders, high three quarters release, arm works, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork. 

Korbin Hiebert, Eudora, 2019
Hiebert is a 5-foot-10 141-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.70 60 and a 4.53 home-to-first.  He posted a 75 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, in line stride, creates momentum with front side, no wasted movement in load, hand work inside of ball, oppo approach, solid consistent contact during batting practice, had a pair of singles in game action.  In the outfield, 74 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, fields ball in a position ready to throw, quick glove to hand exchange, mostly accurate throws. 

Nathan Hungate, Kapaun Mt. Carmel, 2018
Hungate is a 6-foot-1 155-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.09 60 and a 4.34 home-to-first.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, simple and repeatable swing, athletic set up, toe tap, short stride, level bat path though the zone, middle approach, singled in game action.  In the outfield, 86 mph positional velo, one of the top velos on the day from the outfield, loose over the the top release, momentum through the catch, quick catch and throw, athletic actions, throw have carry, mostly accurate.

Connor Jeffers, Burlington, 2018
Jeffers is a physical 5-foot-11 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.27 60 and a 4.50 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 85 mph. At the plate, tall stance, slightly open, in line stride, middle to pull contact, balanced finish, had a pair of triples in game action. In the outfield, 81 mph positional velo, over the top release, fluid footwork, takes good route to ball, clean exchange with quick release, somewhat accurate throws.

Ryan Koval, Olathe South, 2018
Koval is a projectable 6-foot-2 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 6.94 60, one of the top for the event, and a 4.88 home-to-first.  He has an 88 mph exit velo, one of top RHH velos. At the plate, has feel for the barrel, consistent solid contact gap-to-gap during batting practice, athletic stance, smooth load, short to contact, controlled body, doubled down the left field line in game action.  In the outfield, 82 mph positional velo, one of the top among outfielders, high three quarters release, catching ball in position to throw, aggressive to ball, plays through the catch, athletic actions. 

Corbin Lill, Clearwater, 2018
Lill is a 6-foot 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 6.85 60, one of the top for the event and a 4.44 home-to-first.  He posted an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, some hand load, in line stride, gap-to-gap approach, showed some power to pull gap, had two singles in game action.  In the outfield, 86 mph positional velo, one of top outfield velos, high three quarters release, moves to the ball with purpose, loose arm action, clean exchange, momentum through the catch, strong and athletic frame. 

Cole Machovsky, Shawnee Mission East, 2018
Machovsky is a 5-foot-11 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.31 60 and a 4.28 home-to-first, one of the top among RHH.  He has an 88 mph exit velo, one of the top among RHH. At the plate, gap-to-gap approach, controlled leg lift to in line stride, level path though hitting zone, thin stance, body stays under control.  In the outfield, 79 mph positional velo, over the top release, moves well to the ball, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws. 

Tyler McQuinn, Blue Valley Northwest, 2019
McQuinn is a 5-foot-2 125-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.57 60 and a 4.84 home-to-first.  He has a 69 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic set up, controlled in line stride, hands work inside of ball, loose hands, middle to oppo line drives during batting practice, singled in game action.  In the outfield, 78 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot, loose arm action, arm works, mostly accurate throws, quick footwork, clean glove to hand exchange, throws have back spin. 

Carter Melchior, St. Thomas Aquinas, 2019
Melchior is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.   He ran a 7.16 60 and a 4.70 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 75 mph. At the plate, athletic set up, gap-to-gap approach, line drives to the middle of the field during batting practice.  In the outfield, 71 mph positional velo, clean exchange, high three quarters release, fluid footwork.

Connor Nekola, Mill Valley, 2018
Nekola is a 5-foot-11 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.35 60 and a 4.40 home-to-first. He has a 78 mph exit velo. At the plate, smooth rhythm, short stride, swing produced line drives to the middle to opposite side of field during batting practice, hands work inside ball, feel for the barrel, singled to center and tripled to left center in game action. In the outfield, 81 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, long arm circle, works behind the and throught he ball, loose arm action, throw have carry and are mostly accurate.

Mitchell Olson, Frankfort, 2019
Olson is a 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.45 60 and a 4.83 home-to-first.  He posted a 79 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, short in line stride, level path through the zone, contact to the middle of the field.  In the outfield, 71 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot, clean glove to hand transfer, quick to the ball, fluid footwork. 

Brice Pannier, Smith-Cotton (MO), 2018
Pannier is a 6-foot 190-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.03 60 and 4.68 home-to-first.  He posted a 91 mph exit velo, one of the top LHH velos. At the plate, takes an aggressive swing, pull side line drives, power swing, fast bat speed, loose hands create bat whip, short to contact, level through the zone, tripled to the opposite field in game action.  In the outfield, quick footwork with athletic actions, high three quarters release, creates momentum through the catch, throws have carry with accuracy. 

James Perry, Liberty North (MO), 2018
Perry is a 6-fot-4 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 7.09 60 and a 4.44 home-to-first.  He has a 92 mph exit velo. At the plate, hits with leverage and fast bat speed, showed power to pull side, strong and fast hands, level though the zone, short to contact, open stance, smooth load.  In the outfield, aggressive to the ball with loose and quick arm, over the top release, athletic actions, momentum through the catch, throws are strong and accurate, 92 mph positional velo, top outfield velo on the day.  

Garrett Presko, Pembroke Hill (MO), 2018
Presko is a 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.32 60 and a 4.69 60.  He has an exit velo of 86 mph.  At the plate, simple and repeatable swing, short and controlled stride, quick hands, level through the zone, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, 86 mph positional velo, one of the top velos among outfielders, over the top release, loose arm action, smooth movements to the ball, clean exchange, throws have back spin and are mostly accurate.

Jared Ravencamp, Blue Springs South (MO), 2018
Ravencamp is a 6-foot 157-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.03 60 and a 4.45 home-to-first.  He posted an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, repeats swing, minimal load, attacks ball, short stride from balances set up, gap-to-gap approach, had three singles in four at-bats in game action.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, plays through the catch, accurate throws, athletic footwork, showed ability to defend with diving catch in game action. 

David Robinson, Blue Valley Northwest, 2018
Robinson is a 5-foot-10 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  Her ran a 7.09 60 and had a 4.52 home-to-first time.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic set up, early stride to front foot, some hand load, barreled up ball to middle and pull side of field, quick and strong hands.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional velo, quick twitch, high over the top release, aggressive to the ball, plays through the catch, quick footwork, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws.

Jacob Schuh, Valley Heights, 2018
Schuh is a 5-foot-9 135-pound right-handed hitting outfielder Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.50 60 and a 4.83 home-to-first.  He has a 72 mph exit velo. At the plate, thin stance, in line stride, minimal load, level path, contact to pull side during batting practice.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, 66 mph positional velo, fluid exchange, gains momentum to throw,  somewhat accurate throws. 

Jared Sharp, Blue Valley Southwest, 2018
Sharp is a 5-foot-10 155-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.66 60 and a 4.71 home-to-first.  He has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, simple and repeatable swing, feel for the barrel, consistent line drive to the middle of the field during batting practice, smooth rhythm, short to contact level to extension, loose hands.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, arm works, catching ball in throwing position, athletic actions, fluid footwork, 75 mph positional velo, mostly accurate throws. 

Lane Shockey, Mulvane, 2018
Shockey is a 5-foot-9 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 8.16 60 and a 5.00 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 69 mph. At the plate, wide stance, athletic position, short stride, hands dominate the swing, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, fluid footwork with clean exchange, 65 mph positional velo, somewhat accurate throws. 

Marcus Smith, Pembroke Hill (MO), 2018
Smith is a 5-foot-10 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 6.99 60, one of the top for the event, and a 4.16 home-to-first.  He has an 85 mph exit velo, among the best of LHH. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth weight shift into back side, quick hands, level though the zone, consistent line drives to the pull side during batting practice, feel for the barrel, had three singles in game action, aggressive base runner.  In the outfield, 74 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick twitch actions, athletic, aggressive to the ball, accurate throws. 

Blayten Tullis, Derby, 2018
Tullis is a 5-foot-11 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.03 60 and 4.27 home-to-first, one of the top among RHH.  He posted an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, soft inline stride, quick hands, swing produced line drives to the pull side, efficient movements.  In the outfield, over the top release, arm works, 80 mph positional velo, fluid footwork, clean exchanges, mostly accurate throws. 

Brady Walker, Olathe Northwest, 2018
Walker is a 5-foot-11 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.35 60 and a 4.56 home-to-first.  He has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, showed some power at the plate during batting practice, athletic set up, short stride, minimal and smooth load, short path to contact, quick bat speed, most contact was hard up the middle.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional velo, over the top release, catches ball in position to throw, athletic footwork, creates momentum through the catch, quick release, somewhat accurate throws. 

Zech Williams, Blue Valley West, 2019
Williams is a 5-foot-10 153-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.61 60 and a 4.59 home-to-first.  He has an exit velo of 79 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, no wasted movement in load, solid consistent during batting practice, gap-to-gap approach, repeats swing, hands work inside ball.  In the outfield, 74 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, long arm circle, fluid footwork, clean exchange, somewhat accurate throws. 

Carter Young, Lee’s Summit West (MO), 2019  
Young is a 5-foot-10 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.00 60, one of the top for the event, and posted an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, repeats swing, quick bat speed, loose hands, tall stance, controlled leg lift with inline stride, gap-to-gap approach, power to pull side.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, somewhat accurate throws, loose arm action, quick catch and throw, 79 mph positional velo.
