JuCo Player Spotlight - STLCC Preston Salazar

The St. Louis CC RHP/3B is the ace of the Archers pitching staff and has shown dominate stuff at times this season. This spring he has been as high as 93 mph and generally pitches in the 88-92 range with two swing and miss breaking balls. The slider the harder of the two is 81-84 and the curveball is in the 74-76 range both have sharp tight action.  To date he has posted a 6-3 record with a 5.92 era over 51.2 IP with 72 strikeouts to lead the way for St. Louis CC.

Offensively he has posted a .314 BA 6 2B, 3 HR, 16 RBI while manning third base.




Scouting Report

6/13/17 - Salazar is a 6-foot-4 178-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a  7.41 laser timed 60 and a 4.89 home to first.  He has an 86 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts with high hands and thin stance, hits with leverage in lower half, takes an aggressive swing, flashing power to pull gap, long levers with thin frame.  On the infield, 84 mph positional velo, over the top release, gets momentum to throw after the catch, clean exchange with fluid footwork, throws downhill, accurate throws.  Doubled in the left-center gap during game action. On the mound, Salazar has a prototypical pitchers frame, long and lean with levers, has deception in delivery with front side, over the top release, quick and loose arm action, aggressive down the mound, in line stride, projectable with more in the tank, fastball at 82-84 mph, breaking ball has sharp 12-to-6 action at 68-69 mph.

1/31/16 - Salazar is a 6-foot-1 145-pound right-handed pitcher and right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class from Kirkwood HS.  Salazar has a fastball at 76-78 mph, 12-to-6 shaped breaking ball at 63-65 mph, straight change-up at 70-72 mph, slender frame with projection, over the top release, high percentage of strikes with three pitches, controlled body during delivery, in line and aggressive down the mound, throwing with some effort, arm works. At the plate, open stance to inline stride, aggressive to the ball, loose hands to extension, showed feel for the barrel, consistent line drive to middle/pull side.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, over the top release, clean exchange with some momentum through the catch, accurate throws.  Slender and projectable build.
