Justin GellmanWith one compact, explosive swing of the bat, 3B Justin Gellman (Clayton HS) left arguably the most indelible impression at the Midwest Future Games in early August. With Team Missouri trailing Pennsylvania by two runs, Gellman crushed a taper-shot two-run home run that sailed well over the left-field bullpen at Indiana University.

It was one of two home runs of the three-day event.

Gellman, who’s ranked No. 17 in Missouri’s 2015 class and 148 overall, has had considerable interest since his performance at the Midwest Future Games. He said the schools that have expressed interest thus far include Michigan State, Indiana, Duke, Tulane, UC Santa Barbara, Stanford, Georgia State, Penn State, Arizona State, and other smaller private schools in the East Coast.

Gellman, who takes honors and AP courses, has a weighted 3.65 GPA and is taking the ACT in October. He said he hopes to score a 30.

“High academics and strong baseball combined,” Gellman cited as what he’s looking for in a college. “Academics, though, is my number one criteria.  I am looking at Midwest schools but my dream would be to go west.”

Clayton HS should become a recruiting hotspot next spring. The team features three top 20 prospects in the 2015 class – RHP John Howard (No. 10), C Jake Brown (No. 18) and Gellman. As a sophomore, Gellman batted .286 with five doubles, two homers, 25 RBI and a .462 on-base percentage.
