Day 2: Oklahoma Limited Series

National Crosschecker

Carter Baumler RHP / OF / Dowling Catholic, IA / 2020

Baumler ran his fastball up to 89 mph, and was mostly 85-88 throughout with minimal effort. The ball jumps out of his hand, and gets on the hitter in a hurry given how effortless it is thrown. The athletically-built, lean, 6-foot-3, 185-pounder has a quiet delivery that he repeats with ease, remaining linear down the mound with a medium-sized stroke and quick arm speed. He varied his breaking ball in speed and shape from 73-78, depending on the count, with the firm being closer to a tight slider with later bite. The pitch is still developing , somewhat, but showed clear signs of having the potential to be a weapon in the future. He also threw one changeup that was landed for a strike to the arm side and was thrown with fastball arm speed. The arm strength and ease with which the velocity comes is something that college recruiters will take immediate notice of. Interesting to note: Baumler also hits in the three-hole for the Iowa Sticks and he blasted a moon-shot home run to deep left field. He has quick hands and strength through the zone on a singular path with present power.
