Class of 2016 Games: Middle Infielders Analysis

On Tuesday, June 9, Prep Baseball Report-Missouri hosted the Class of 2016 Games at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. Fifty-six uncommitted players from the 2016 class participated, with several players earning All-State honors. The group was divided into two sessions with a morning workout and game followed by an afternoon workout and game. Profiles have be updated with times, velos and videos. The games portion of the event can still be viewed on STL Sports Productions.
Today we will break down the middle infielders from both groups. The middle infielders are listed in alphabetical order. This analysis includes only the performances for players that listed their primary position at shortstop and second-base. Some players in this group also pitched and will be included in the pitchers analysis. This analysis only includes middle infielders.
In the days to come we will break down Corner Infielders, Outfielders and Pitchers. Overall rankings will be updated shortly after the analysis of each position. See below for Catchers Analysis.

Middle Infielders
Jackson Abdon, 2B, Bolivar, 2016
Abdon is a 6’0 173-pound right-handed hitting 2B/SS. Abdon had an 81 mph exit velo and ran a 7.15 60. At the plate, start to the contact with no wasted movement during load, short stride, middle to pull approach. On the infield, clean glove-to-hand exchange, fluid foot work, accurate throws, high-three quarters release, 76 mph infield velo, went 1-for-3 in game action.
Connor Basler, SS, Valle Catholic, 2016
Basler is a lean, projectable 6-foot-1 165-pound right-handed hitting SS. At the plate, drops into legs to load, loads hands, line drive approach to both gaps, fast bat speed, level path to extension, balanced throughout swing. Runs a 6.78 60, 4.53 home-to-first and has an 83 mph exit velo, On the infield, high three-quarters release, arm works from different throwing angles, fields ball in athletic position, plays through ball, quick exchange and release, 78 mph infield velo, accurate throws.
Brayden Jensen, SS, Truman, 2016
Jensen is a 6-foot-2 170-pound right-handed hitting SS from Truman HS. Jensen had an 82 mph exit velo and ran a 7.15 60. Collected a single during game action, ran a 4.56 home-to-first. During hitting evals, starts with a slightly open stance and slightly up hill in shoulders, short stride, no wasted movement in load, line drive approach to pull side, 82 mph exit velo. On the infield, fluid footwork, clean exchange, hands and feet work together, plays through the ball, accurate, 78 mph infield velo
Joe Kinder, SS, Liberty, 2016
Kinder is a 6-foot-3 170-pound right-handed hitting SS/3B from Liberty, MO. Kinder ran a 7.25 60 and posted an 86 mph exit velo. Kinder takes and aggressive swing at the plate, with feel for the barrel, he has a short stride, with some hand load, used the whole field, level path to extension. On the infield, three-quarters release, accurate throws, feet and hands work together, momentum towards target, 77 mph positional velo., went 2-for-3 in game action with a pair of singles.
Kodee Martin, SS, Platte County, 2016
Martin is a 5-10 160-pound right-handed hitting SS/2B from Platte County HS. Martin has an exit velocity of 84 mph and runs a 6.94 60. At the plate, he starts in a balanced position, controlled leg kick for stride, stays square, uses middle of the field, level path to finish. Defensively, has a 78 mph positional velo, soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, long loose arm swing, accurate throws.
Harrison Schnurbusch, SS, Lee’s Summit West. 2016
Schnurbusch is a 6-foot-1 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Schnurbusch posted one of the top exit velos for the event at 90 mph, one of the event’s best 60 times at 6.81 and was 81 mph across the infield, he went 1-for-3 with a single during game action. At the plate, slightly open, controlled load, loose hands, middle-oppo approach, level to extension. Defensively, accurate throws from three-quarters slot, fluid footwork, quick release, plays through the ball.
Benjamin Sems, SS, Westminster, 2016
Sems is a projectable 6-foot-1 150-pound left-handed hitting SS/RHP. At the plate, Sems starts in a balanced position slightly open, has a smooth load and small leg kick. He has a level path to extension, uses both gaps, pull power, balanced finish. Posted one of the top left-handed exit velos at 88 mph, hit a double and single during game action, runs a 7.19 60.
John Thompson, 2B, Raymore-Peculiar, 2016
Thompson is a 5-10 180-pound left-handed hitting 2B/3B. At the plate, Thompson starts with a balanced open stance with minimal load, short stride, loose hands, quick level bat path, 87 mph exit velo, 7.15 60 time. Defensively, Thompson made all the plays during evals, quick exchange and release, fluid footwork, plays through ball, accurate throws, 78 mph positional velo.
