On Feb. 15, PBR Kansas hosted the Between the Lines Scout Day at the BTL Indoor Facility in Shawnee. There were 20 total players in attendance representing the 2020 through 2023 classes, all of which are currently uncommitted. 

At the immediate conclusion of the event, we published an Instant Analysis, highlighting some of the top overall statistical performers from that event. Today, we take a look at each individual prospect who participated in front of our staff. 

The lone 2020 prospect in attendance was Colby McCurdy (Ottawa; uncommitted). McCurdy is an athletic, wiry middle infielder that came into the event as the top-ranked second baseman in his respective class. He’s got some sneaky raw pop in his bat and displayed sound defensive actions that suggest he’ll be more than capable of sticking up the middle at the next level. McCurdy is one of the top uncommitted seniors in the state. 

This event helped a trio of prospects further establish themselves as top uncommitted follows in their respective classes: RHP/OF Karson Schaunaman (Piper, 2022), RHP Tyler Leachner (Blue Valley Southwest, 2022), and OF/RHP Jeremy Comer (St. James Academy, 2023). 

Schaunaman was the day’s top overall performer, taking an impressive round of batting practice and showcasing a strong one-two punch on the mound. Leachner came into the event as one of the top-ranked pitching prospects in his class and further cemented himself towards the top of that list after his bullpen. Comer, one of the youngest prospects in attendance, is a smooth-swinging left-handed hitter that also threw multiple different pitches for strikes on the mound. As we progress into the summer season, these three prospects should certainly be on your radar.

Jeremy Comer, St James Academy (KS), 2023 
Positional Profile: OF 
Body: 6-foot-2, 170-pounds. Long and lean 6-2 170 pound frame. Plenty of room to add strength.
Defense:. Developing and deliberate actions through the ball with a big crow hop. 
Arm:OF - 81 mph. Short and quick arm action. Over the top release.
Hit: Left-handed. Upright stance. Strides into launch position with little hand movement. Elevated swing path with a high two-handed finish.
Power: 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Back leg swing. Consistent barrels with the ability to hit the ball in the air.
Run: 4.56 runner home-to-first. 

Delivery: Works only from the stretch with a moderate leg lift before gathering and driving down the mound, finishing balanced.
Arm Action: Right-handed. Moderate, clean, and controlled in the back before coming through a high-3/4 slot.
FB: T83, 81-82 mph. Fastball shows consistent and late arm-side run, nearly all strikes . Also mixes in a cutter.
CB: 70-71 mph. Shows 11/5 shape with some late depth. 
SL: 72-73 mph. Advanced with 10/4 shape and late bite, mostly strikes. 
CH: 75-76 mph. Advanced with big fade and depth, thrown with full arm speed, mostly strikes. 

Matthew Coxe, Rockhurst (MO), 2023 
Positional Profile: SS 
Body: 5-foot-7, 135-pound developing fame. 
Defense: Shows aggressive actions with quick and active feet. Average hands.
Arm: INF - 66 mph. Uses a short arm stroke coming through a high-¾ slot with some accuracy. 
Hit: Starts from an athletic set-up with rhythm throughout. Uses a big and quick leg kick before striding forward and launching his hands on a flat path with a high finish. Found some barrels in BP. 
Power: 74 mph exit velocity from the tee. 
Run: 4.85 runner home-to-first. 

Delivery: Feet start balanced towards middle of rubber, slight side step initiates quick tall/fall type delivery, level shoulders, works slightly closed off from target, lands square, rhythm throughout. Arm Action: . Short arm action, high 3/4 slot. 
FB: T73, 71-72 mph. Primarily plays straight, flashed slight arm-side run. 
CB: 63-64 mph. 11/5 shape, early break. 
CH: 62-63 mph. Near fastball arm speed, played with slight sinking action. 

Dakota Duran, Shawnee Mission West (KS), 2021 
Positional Profile: C 
Body: 5-foot-9, 150-pounds. Proportional build.
Defense: 1.99-2.05 pop times. Shows quick feet, clearing to his arm side on throws down. Receives with quiet hands. Advanced blocking.
Arm: Right-handed. C - 75 mph. INF - 79 mph. Short arm action. Over the top release.
Hit: Right-handed. Back leg heavy stance with bend in the knees. Slow moderate knee-knock leg kick. Hands come through an efficient and clean path with some quickness.
Power: 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Consistent line drives to the middle and pull side. 
Run: 4.63 runner home-to-first. Upright runner. Long strides

Nick Fincher, Blue Valley (KS), 2022 
Positional Profile: LHP/1B 
Body: 6-foot-1, 157-pounds. Long, slim frame
Defense:  pop times. Developing controlled and deliberate actions. 
Arm: INF - 65 mph. Long in the back with funky action before coming through a high-¾ slot.
Hit: Left-handed. Wide stance with weight on the back side Downhill swing path. One handed finish.
Power: 72 mph exit velocity from the tee. Developing strength. 
Run: 5.34 runner home-to-first. 

Delivery: Controlled with a very high leg kick before striding way down the mound and finishing towards the dish. 
Arm Action: Left-handed. Long in the back with funk and deception coming through a high-3/4 slot.
FB: T70, 68-69 mph. Flashes cut with some strikes, also mixes in a true cutter. 
CH: 60-61 mph. Consistent fade,  thrown with full arm speed, some strikes. 

Anthony Fincher, Blue Valley (KS), 2022

Body: 6-foot-3, 182-pounds. Long, lanky, developing frame
Defense: Aggressive actions in the field. Comes through the ball with some athleticism.
Arm: Right-handed. OF - 79 mph. Long arm action. Over the top release.
Hit: Right-handed. Crouched stance with the hands pre loaded Swing straight to the ball. Downhill swing path. Moderate two hand finish
Power: 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Found consistent barrels.
Run: 4.88 runner home-to-first.

Arm Action: Right-handed. Long, clean arm action, high-3/4 slot; quick arm.

Nick McDermott, St. James Academy (KS), 2023 
Positional Profile: RHP

Nickolas Noftsger, Gardner Edgerton (KS), 2023 
Positional Profile: RHP

Defense: Works well through the ball. Charges the ball well to get better hops.
Arm: Right-handed. INF - 71 mph. Short arm action from the ear.
Hit: Right-handed. Open, upright stance. Uses a quick and moderate leg lift. Level swing path through extension. 
Power: 71 mph exit velocity from the tee. Found some barrels in BP for line drives.

Isaiah Walker, Blue Valley Northwest (KS), 2021 
Positional Profile: OF 
Body: 5-foot-7, 170-pounds. Stocky, athletic frame. Muscular build.
Defense: Quick, aggressive actions in the field. Very quick feet.
Arm: Right-handed. OF - 76 mph. Quick in the back with some length before coming through an over the top slot. 
Hit: Right-handed. Wide, crouched stance. Uses a big and fluid load with a slight arm bar late before taking a long stride and hitting from his front foot. Shows a middle to opposite field approach with an uphill swing. Quick hands and barrel strength. 
Power: 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Advanced pop off the bat. Gap-to-gap power
