On Tuesday, September 27th, the PBR Illinois and PBR Missouri staffs will converge at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois, to host the second annual Battle for The Arch event. This invite-only showcase will feature prospects from Illinois and Missouri split into their respective teams, starting with a workout portion that’s followed by gameplay.

PREVIOUS HISTORY

Last year was the first time we ran this event and it was a success, with several talented prospects representing their respective states at a high level. We’re up to 18 commits from last year’s group and there’s several 2023s still on the market that attended who should come off the market in the coming weeks.

LHP Jack Niedringhaus (MICDS, 2022; Xavier) and INF Joe Siervo (Parkway Central, 2022; Jefferson College) were each top-50 prospects in Missouri’s 2022 class that represented the ‘Show Me’ state here last year. OF/LHP Brysen Nepute (Francis Howell, 2023) is a true two-way talent that’s currently one of the top uncommitted athletes in Missouri. INF Edward Uschold (Parkway South, 2023) also made the trip to Sauget, and he swings a physical right-handed with middle-of-the-order upside that’s still on the market.

TEAM MISSOURI

There’s a few names on this Team Missouri squad that were standouts across our events this year:

+ RHP Ajani Henke (Home School) has been a major winner this far into the fall circuit, turning heads at both the SLABA Scout Day and the Missouri Fall Upperclass Games. A physically built athlete with strength tacked onto a 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame, Henke pumps a lively fastball at 85-88 mph, flipping over a low-70s breaking ball for strikes with consistency as well, while burrying it beneath the zone on occasion for swings-and-misses.

+ OF Luke Burns (Desmet, 2023) remains a top uncommitted prospect in Missouri’s senior class, and he’s headed to Sauget next Tuesday as a member of Team Missouri. At 6-foot-1, 195-pounds, Burns caught our attention at the St. Louis Top Prospect Games in June, repeating quality contact off the barrel from a short, simple right-handed swing in BP.

+ Two high school teammates, C Kody Brown (Seckman, 2024) and INF Hayden Boyd (Seckman, 2024), are name-to-know uncommitted prospects that just started their junior years. Brown impressed at the St. Louis Top Prospect Games this past June, generating hard, elevated contact in BP with arm strength and accuracy behind the plate to pair. We just saw the 6-foot-2, 180-pound Boyd at the Fall Upperclass Games, where he was amongst the top position players in attendance. His glove can be an asset on the left side of the infield, and his athletic right-handed stroke flashed upside throughout the day.

+ 1B Tyler Laskowski (Christian Brothers College, 2024) stands at a physical 6-foot, 185-pound with inherent bat strength to pair. He impressed at the GBA Scout Day late May, barreling balls up to the pull-side with loose hands and whippy levers.
