After an impressive senior season to cap off his stellar high school career, RHP Jack Nobe (St. Francis Borgia, 2024) has earned the 2024 Prep Baseball Missouri Player of the Year award. 

Nobe’s case as one of the most impactful players in the state, regardless of class or status, dates back to his junior year with the Knights. He helped lead his Borgia club to a state runner-up finish in Class 5 while truly excelling on both sides of the ball. At the plate, Nobe slashed .393/.467/.664 across 124 plate appearances, launching six home runs with a team-high 28 RBI. He was even better on the mound, pitching to a 1.05 ERA over a 66 ⅔ inning workload with 101 strikeouts and only 14 walks.

The Xavier signee started his senior season on a strong note at the Prep Baseball Super 60, the premier winter event in the country. There, amongst a talented crop of arms, Nobe grabbed the attention of Shooter Hunt, earning a mention inside his ‘9 to Know’ story after the event for his efforts on the mound: 

From 2/8/24: “...a revelation at the event, Nobe likely opened many eyes with his performance. Providing a true starter upside, the 6-foot-2, 177-pound right-hander delivered an excellent bullpen with a glimpse at a quality three-pitch mix. Free and easy out of the glove with a clean and continuous arm stroke, the fastball jumped out of the hand and at the plate with an average of 2401 rpm and a max velocity of 93.5 mph. He routinely found a high ¾ slot in pounding the zone with the heater, and spun a quality slider at 79-83 (2511 rpm max) that took short and late lateral movement. Although the changeup (83-85) was a clear third option, he threw enough strikes in this look to warrant future average upside. A two-way athlete at the collegiate level, the pitching profile and athleticism yield much to get excited about as the frame continues developing.”

Though Nobe’s pitching prowess turned heads in the winter, his powerful left-handed swing matched what the 6-foot-2, 175-pound star did on the mound and paved the way for his Borgia club to win another District title. In 121 plate appearances, Nobe slashed .420/.517/.730 with seven doubles, eight home runs, and 31 RBI. He drew more walks (18) than strikeouts (15) and was a perfect 9-for-9 on the bases. Turning to the mound, Nobe allowed just five earned runs (0.65 ERA) in 10 starts this spring. He logged 53 ⅔ innings, with four complete games, and fanned 86 batters in that span while walking 21. 

Nobe’s next chapter will start in the next few months, as he’ll begin his collegiate career at the University of Xavier as a Musketeer and is talented enough to positively impact their club right away.
