CLASS 6 SECTIONALS PREVIEW
+ Seckman (20-11-1): The Jaguars are here on the backs of one of the state’s most potent offenses with a lineup that is no easy out from top to bottom. They scored more than 12 runs in all three of their District games and, headlined by strong offensive showings from Ryan Bradford (2025; Kansas State), Brady Vessells (2025), and Connor Day (2025). Their lineup runs deeper than those three names, however, with others like Kody Brown (2024; Lake Land JC), Hayden Boyd (2024; Jefferson JC), Nathan Higgins (2024; St. Louis CC), and Tyler Tipton (2024; St. Louis CC) are all having strong years at the plate. Turning to the mound, Carter Hutsell (2024; Columbia College) has been their staff ace, pitching to a 0.70 ERA over 49 ⅔ innings on the hill. Kayden Kohlberg (2024; SEMO) is a power arm that’s also thrown the ball well, fanning 52 over 43 ⅓ innings of work with a 2.91 ERA. Seckman squares up against Lafayette on Saturday in a game that’ll determine a spot in Ozark.
+ Lafayette (23-12) is back in sectionals after navigating their way through one of the tougher Districts in the state and defending last year’s title. They beat Waynesville (12-0) in round one before downing Vianney (6-1) in the semi-finals and up-ending Parkway South (3-1) for the championship. Michael Callahan (2025; Missouri State), Paul Pratte (2024; Drury), Xander Schmitt (2024; Kansas), Daxton Shawke (2024), and Will Gebhart (2024; Drury) pace an upperclass heavy, experienced lineup that puts the pressure on their opposition. Landon Matthews (2026) continued his excellent sophomore season last week, improving to a 1.21 ERA over a bulk workload of 52 innings. Tyson Oswald (2024; Wabash Valley) has thrown the ball well for the Lancers as well, featuring a power arsenal that’s grabbed 35 whiffs over 31 ⅓ innings with a 2.68 ERA. Lafayette’s daunting test of opponents continues on Saturday as they’ll host Seckman in the sectional championship game.
+ Lee’s Summit (24-15) won their District as the three seed, taking down rival Lee’s Summit West (7-4) in the championship game after wins over Lee’s Summit North (6-2) and Raymore-Peculiar (12-1). Offensively, the heart of the Tigers’ order is made up of names like Dominick Thompson (2026), Will Godfrey (2025), Grant Sumrall (2024), and Conner Anderson (2024). Dayton Masters (2026) had a big game in the District championship win and others like Connor Kepner (2024; St. Charles CC) and Micah Patterson (2026) are integral parts of this team. Sumrall, Patterson, Tate Alexander (2025) and Kolby Bockes (2025) are all key arms in this pitching staff. The Tigers will face off against reigning state champion Liberty North on Saturday in the sectional championship game.
+ Three straight District titles for Liberty North (31-8), as the back-to-back Class 6 state champions will have the opportunity to return to Ozark with a win on Saturday. They boast a veteran, experienced lineup that’s one of the state’s best and is full of upperclassmen already committed to play baseball at the next level. Trey Snyder (2024; Tennessee) leads the way from the top of the order and truly sets the table for this group. Cole Young (2024; Central Missouri), Joe Hall (2024; Adams State), and Bo Jonas (2024; UCF) provide a large chunk of the Eagles’ run production as true middle-of-the-order type bats. Others like Nolan Whalley (2024; Drury), Harrison Barham (2024; KCK), Jimi Oguntuase (2025), and William Bologna (2026) extend a lineup that can beat you in many ways from top to bottom. Gabe Perry (2024; Hutchinson CC) has stepped into the role of staff ace, while Mason Burnett (2024) and Matt Lewis (2024; Butler CC) have both thrown the ball well throughout the spring. A matchup with Lee’s Summit awaits the Eagles on Saturday, where they’ll return to Ozark for the third straight year with a win.
+ CBC (23-16) fell short of a District title last year, finishing as runner-ups, but the Cadets punched their ticket to sectionals with a 5-4 win over SLUH last Saturday. Their offense runs deep and is led by Jake McGhee (2024; Oklahoma), a physical left-handed hitter that’s slashing .434/.529/.752 on the year with 15 doubles, five home runs, and 35 RBI. Derrick Pitts (2024; Cincinnati), Logan Winkleman (2024; Lake Land JC), Tyler Ellis (2024; Lindenwood), and GT Taylor (2026; Mizzou) are all power-packed right-handed bats that can make an impact in any given at-bat. Bryce Edmiston (2025), Conner Suthers (2024), Wade Hunter (2024), and Anthony Tocco (2025) are four more upperclass bats that extend this offense even moreso. Ellis and Michael Sievers (2025) are leading the charge on the mound, with McGhee serving in a dynamic “fireman” role out of the bullpen. The Cadets will face arguably their toughest task to date on Saturday, where they’ll draw Francis Howell.
+ Five straight District titles for Francis Howell (29-10), as the Vikings will look to secure three consecutive trips to Ozark with a win over CBC on Saturday. Pitching is the strength of this club, with Alex Bryan (2024; Maryville) anchoring the staff in his senior year - he’s pitched to a 0.81 ERA over 52 innings of work, striking out 43 with only 14 walks. Star sophomore Dylan Curtis (2026) logged a 1.49 ERA across 42 ⅓ frames in his first year on varsity, while Eli Skidmore (2025; St. Louis), Adam Shipley (2024; St. Louis), Jake Brettschneider (2026), and Grayson Coleman (2024; John Wood CC) all had highly impressive seasons on the bump. Rising MLB Draft follow Tytus Cissell (2024; Mizzou) paces the Vikings do-it-all offense, slashing .339/.469/.522 with 15 extra-base hits, 25 RBI, and he’s a perfect 34-for-34 on stolen base attempts. Matthew Rauser (2025), Brennon Wibbenmeyer (2024; Missouri S&T), Brady Tanner (2026), and Collin Lovelady (2025) are other names to know in this lineup.
+ Blue Springs (25-11) are back-to-back District champions, riding a potent pitching staff in this year’s run. Cole Gibler (2024; Arkansas) and Nick Gibler (2024; Central Missouri) lead the charge as two legitimate frontline arms, with other standouts like Ronin Vicenti (2024; Johnson County CC), Gabe Rogers (2024; Central Missouri), and Lincoln Stephenson (2024; Central Missouri) each throwing the ball well. Several of those names are impact bats for this club as well, joining Drew McConnell (2024; Evansville), Alex Biermaier (2024; West Plains), and Logan Craft (2025) as the key ingredients to an offense that can beat you from top to bottom. Blue Springs' final stop on their way to Ozark goes through one of the state’s best teams in Glendale.
+ You’ll be hard pressed to find a team hotter in the state of Missouri than Glendale (26-5), as the Falcons have lost just one game since March 30th. They’re a relentless, highly talented group that beat Joplin (3-1), Kickapoo (7-2), and Nixa (4-2) on their way to a District championship in their first year at the Class 6 level. Sebastian Norman (2025; Oklahoma State), Mark Ross II (2024; Central Arkansas), and talented youngster Brady Yates (2027) supply the power from the middle of the Falcons’ lineup. Names like Camren Stratton (2024; Johnson County CC), Drew Wedgeworth (2024; Missouri State - West Plains), Brayden Biggers (2024), Alex Rankin (2024), and Graham Satterwhite (2025) are talented bats that make up this deep lineup. Wedgeworth is the Falcons’ ace, consistently pitching and performing in big games for this club as a high pitchability left-hander. Glendale will host Blue Springs and the Wildcats’ powerful pitching staff on Saturday afternoon.
